His words send a little thrill through me.

For the past few weeks, Chase and I have been getting closer. It’s hard not to when you spend hours together every week, working towards a common goal. But lately, our conversations have started to go beyond just physical therapy, and we’ve discovered that we have a lot in common.

I can’t help but think about how nice it feels to be this close to him. His scent envelops me, and I resist the urge to bury my face in his jacket.

We walk down the driveway towards the mailbox in silence, with Chase keeping his hand protectively on my lower back so I don't slip on the ice. As I start fixing the decorations, Chase stays by my side, his hands tucked into his pockets.

"I can't believe you're doing manual labor in the snow on our last session of the year," he teases.

I laugh as I adjust a particularly stubborn garland. "The cold really isn't that bad."

Chase grins, his breath visible in the cold air. "Easy for you to say. You're the one with the coat and gloves on."

"Well, you're the one who gave me your coat. You didn't have to."

His smile softens at my words, and he takes a step closer. "You're right, I didn't have to. I wanted to."

I feel my face flush. "Well, the faster I finish these decorations, the sooner we can head inside for hot cocoa."

At the mention of the warm drink, Chase's grin widens, offering a much-needed motivation to speed up my work.

A few minutes later, the reindeer are all fixed up. We decide to let Lola play in the snow for a few extra minutes while we head back inside.

I plop down on the couch while Chase heads toward the kitchen.

He returns a short time later carrying two steaming mugs of cocoa. Then he hands me one and sits down beside me.

As I take my first sip, I can’t help but let my gaze wander down to the thick outline of Chase’s dick against his sweatpants. A prickle of desire creeps along my skin at the thought of tracing that path with my tongue.

I clear my throat and set my mug on the coffee table.

"So, got any big plans for Christmas?" I ask him.

"Not really." He runs his fingers through his hair and nods to the window where Lola is frolicking in the snow outside. "Just chasing that big goober around.”

"Oh." I blink at him in surprise. "You aren't going to see your family?"

Chase shakes his head. "My family and I aren't exactly close. But my cousin Jake just opened a bar in town. Might drop by there."

"That sounds like fun." I try to smile even though my heart twinges at the hint of loneliness in his tone.

"Yeah, I guess. What about you?" He asks.

"I'm flying to Florida tomorrow to visit my parents. I should be back on New Year’s Eve.” Then I poke him playfully in the chest. "So get ready. Because when I get back, we're taking things to the next level."

“Oh yeah?” Chase grins and sets his mug on the coffee table next to mine. “What’s the next level?”

“Just a bit more cardio. Nothing too crazy.”

“That’s too bad.”

That’s when I notice that there’s a heat in his gaze that wasn’t there before.

I swallow hard. "Why too bad?"

Chase gives a low growl and runs his hand along my jaw until I lift my eyes to look at him again. “Because I was hoping that you were talking about something else.”

Then he leans in and kisses me.
