Just as he’d promised, Yun’s men were scattered around the room in various states of dead. There were two in the corner that were dead without blood, probably strangled. Another two were dead with plenty of blood. No doubt a knife.

Outside, three men were slumped in chairs by the pool. One even had his legs crossed, appearing to be sleeping soundly in the warm California sun.

“You’re staging them now?” frowned Nate.

“It makes for a better picture if there are any boats watching or people passing by on the beach below. I’ve softened in my old age.” Trak shrugged, staring at his grandson.

“Where are the others?”

“Downstairs. The two we killed in New Orleans are in a freezer in the basement. I thought they might want company.”

“Where’s your father?” asked Mike, standing in front of the young woman. You could look at her and know that she was spoiled, pretentious, and entitled. Her husband was writhing on the floor in pain, doubled over with a gag in his mouth.

“What’s with him?” asked Nate.

“Oh. I forgot something,” said Trak.

He pushed the man back with his foot, pressing his body to the floor. An ivory handle stuck out of his groin about five inches. Trak gripped the handle, pulling the knife out and wiping the blood on the other man’s pants. He tried to scream out, but he was losing blood fast.

“I’d like to tell you that I can save him if you talk, but I suspect that you won’t give a damn either way,” said Mike. She looked down at the man, but there was no love or affection in her eyes. “That’s what I thought. Fine. He’ll be dead shortly. You’re going to join him.”

“You won’t kill me,” she said, jutting out her chin. “My father will destroy you.”

“Your father is the one who will be destroyed. Didn’t he tell you?” She looked at him with a curious expression, not saying anything. “His anonymity is gone. The military, law enforcement, everyone is looking for him and his men. Those sleek dragon tattoos you all wear are dead giveaways, combined with the intricate writing.”

She stared at him, unwilling to let anything show on her face.

“Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt.” Her breath quickened. How could this man know the quote worn by every one of her father’s men? “Sun Tzu is read by every warrior I know. We are not ignorant, as you and your father may believe.”

“Where is your father?” asked Trak. He leaned toward the woman, his dark eyes becoming nearly black. She leaned away from him, almost afraid of his spirit coming at her.

“He left. He had meetings.”

“Where are the scientists who were working in the building down there?” asked Hunter, pointing toward the water. Benji and Milo reported it empty, nothing but scrap metal, a welding machine, and a few tools left behind.

“I don’t know.”

“I will rip your bones from your body,” said Mike. “Your father is trying to kill the woman I love, and I will not tolerate this. I will find him, I will kill him, and I will have his head.”

“He’ll defeat you,” she said with authority. “My father is the greatest man who ever lived. He promises to make us the most powerful family in the world.”

“Take a look around you, sunshine,” smirked Irish. “Your men are all dead. Not by us. By one man. Only one man. If he did all this, imagine what all of us could do.”

She stared at Trak, then looked around the room and out at the men by the pool. At her feet, her new husband was gasping for his last breaths as the blood drained from his body.

“Where is your father?”

“I don’t know.”

“Enough of this bullshit,” said Sniff.

In the pocket of her skirt, he pulled out her cell phone. The woman snickered, thinking there would be no way they could get inside the phone. Instead, the man held her phone next to his own. A strange clicking sound echoed in the room.

Sniff smiled at her, holding up his phone as he tossed hers to the floor. Tapping the button, he made one simple statement.

“Call Baba.” The paleness of her flesh told him he’d hit a nerve. As the phone began to ring, she shook her head.

“My darling, I’m in a meeting. May I call you back?” he said simply.
