I force the tears threatening to spill from my eyes to stay where they are.

Now’s not the time. There could be any number of men waiting for me outside that door, and God only knows what they’ve done with Arnie. I need to deal with the most pressing issue first. The rest… I will need to confront it later.

The realization dawns on me with chilling indifference: I’m not getting out of here freely.

At least, not on my own.

I whip out my phone a second later and click the call button before I can overthink it.

She picks up on the second ring.

“Roisin, my darling!”

“Eda?” I ask breathlessly. “I need your help.”

Chapter Thirty

Roisin

“Talk to me, Roisin. What’s happening?”

Eda’s voice is calm and measured. It almost feels like she’s guiding me through a meditation. Despite everything, I find it somewhat soothing.

I run a shaking hand through my hair, still floored by Bella’s betrayal.

“A man attacked me,” I get out a little sharply. “In the club.”

“Which club?” Eda’s voice is immediately on high alert. I can hear her get up and immediately start walking at pace.

“Onyx, I think.” I tentatively remember the huge logo on the side of the building. “Arnie brought me for my birthday.”

Although she doesn’t change her pace, her voice becomes warmer. “Happy birthday,mi hija!”

“Thank you,” I say, despite myself. “But they attacked Arnie on the dance floor, and now they’re after me. I think Padraic sent them.”

“Where are you now?” Eda’s business voice is back, and I hear her shouting in Spanish off-speaker.

“Women’s restroom.”

“Are there any windows?”

I look around frantically, cursing myself for not thinking of that before. But as I gaze up the walls, my heart begins to sink.

“They’re too small for me to pass through.” The bitter disappointment echoes through my words.

“That’s okay,” Eda reassures me without hesitation. “We’ll find another way out. Did anyone follow you into the restroom?”

I begin to pace up and down the room. “No, but I think they might be outside. There were two bouncers. I told them they were harassing me.”

“Good girl.” Eda’s praise makes me a little proud of myself. “I’m going to need you to open the door and see if they’re still out there. How many did you say were following you?”

“Only two,” I say as I make my way toward the door and open it up a crack. My heart begins to race again. “There’s one still out there, talking with the bouncer.”

“And the other?”

I try to scan the crowds a little more. “I can’t see him.”

“Okay, Roisin. Go back inside the restroom and listen closely.”
