“You were the mole? This whole time, you’ve been feeding information to the cartel?” I ask unnecessarily.

“Don’t be so judgmental. Isn’t stealth work your specialty?” She flutters her eyelashes before stepping backward. Her gun doesn’t waver a fraction from its aim at my chest.

“You should be thanking me.” Eda smiles fondly at Diane as she sits down next to her. “I’ve identified several weaknesses in your organizational makeup.”

I step closer. “We’re not taking feedback at this time.”

Eda cackles again. “You two are justchildren, playing a game that’s decades old without any true understanding of the consequences of your actions. You really thought you could bring the Maguires back to life from the brink of death? Do you know what kind of bitter taste Caleb Maguire left when he died?”

“Enlighten me.” I take another step forward. There’s a chance Eda was only tracking me on the cameras. So, if I can just keep these two distracted, Kate might stand a chance of escaping.

“Caleb Maguire killed my entire family,” Diane practically spits on the floor as she says this. “My dad missed one payment for the drugs we needed to save my brother’s life. Maguire’s goons beat him up so bad he didn’t make it until morning.”

“Connor isn’t his father,” I argue back fiercely.

“I had to watch my brother die!” Diane roars. “And Connor and his little friends didnothingabout it.”

The clock on the mantelpiece chimes the hour.

BANG.

I shoot Diane in the shoulder, forcing her to drop her gun. With another stride, I kick it away from her. The younger woman screeches in pain, hand clapped to her shoulder as she tries to stop the flow of blood.

But I ignore her, turning my attention to Eda and pushing the barrel of my own gun to her forehead.

“I told you I wasn’t going to ask again,” I growl.

Eda’s responding smile sends shivers of disgust down my spine.

“You’re too late.”

I remove the safety.

“She’s probably overdosed by now.”

Chapter Thirty-Five

Roisin

Arnie’s chest feels warm as I lie across it.

It’s my happy place, curled up into him like this. There’s nowhere in the world that feels safer - especially when his fingers begin tracing over my skin as if trying to remember every inch of me. My eyes flutter closed at the sensation.

Roisin! Wake the fuck up.

If I’m being totally honest with myself, I think I prefer this to acting. Aimee would kill me for wanting to put a man before my career, but it’s not like he’d ever make me choose. Arnie and I just fit like that. He just gets me.

His third hand begins stroking along my face, and I smile. There are so many benefits to having a fiance with an extra limb.

Roisin, can you hear me?

“What’s wrong, my love?” Arnie’s British accent sends shivers of delight down my spine.

“Nothing at all.”

I choke on my own words, coughing and spluttering in a way I’d find embarrassing if Arnie weren’t holding me so wonderfully close. He doesn’t even flinch as I start to pull an endless amount of wool from my mouth.

Stay with me. Stay with me, okay?
