"I can't have sex with one of my staff," I explained.

"So, if I say no?" he asked.

"I'll assume you only said it because you were aware of what would happen if you said yes," I responded. "Thanks to that, I will have your interview cancelled."

"So, I'm doomed either way."

"Yes," I affirmed and put my hands on the table. "So, what would it be?"

He placed his elbow on the table and rested his chin in his palm; his gaze held me. I had to look away.

"If you think about it…" he started, "we didn't sleep with each other when I started working here. Technically, I'm not your staff, and I don't think anyone would read too much into the fact, either."

He had a point.

"Besides, I only came here because of the attention you've been receiving lately," he continued.

"Me sleeping with you was more or less a coincidence and a bonus actually."

"You have no shame," I remarked.

"I'm confused." His expression confirmed his reply. "What's so shameful about sleeping with you?"

The way he asked almost made me swoon.

"I don't know what you're trying to do, but I'm not going to hire you," I said, ignoring his question. "I'm sorry for wasting your time, but that's my decision."

"I don't think I can accept that," he said and laughed. "Why exactly do you want me to leave?"

"Like I said, I don't want to have you around me," I answered. "It doesn't matter if you're staff or not. If I hire you, it's going to be favoritism."

It wasn't the complete reason, though. I was worried about having someone like him on my team. If I couldn't control him, that would be a problem for me. From his psyche, I assumed he wouldn't blatantly disobey me in front of others; my worry was what he would do behind closed doors.

I didn't appreciate how he had taken my ability to control him away. He took his elbow off the table and leaned back into his chair. He was calculating his next move, and it was making me genuinely uncomfortable.

"Is that the only reason?" he asked.

"What?" I raised a brow.

"It's not that you don't want a staff member you've slept with," he explained. "You just don't want someone who won't bend to you."

What the…?

"You're not as complicated as you think," he snapped as he got to his feet and made his way to my side of the desk.

I reached for my office landline but stopped and placed my hands by my sides. I wasn't scared. I was flustered but not scared. He placed his hand under my chin and lifted my gaze.

"Look at the glare in your eyes."

"Refrain from touching my face, this instant," I warned, throwing him glares, expressing the killing intent of a hungry wolf.

"Or what?" he tilted his head to the side, amused by my threat. "If you really wanted to, you could just pull away from my hand, but yet you remain still, barking orders."

I swallowed. He was right. I could have easily moved my head aside, but I remained in the palm of his hand. Images of what he did last night came flooding back. I had to rub my legs together to make sure I didn't show any sign of being turned on.

"But I understand," he said as he let go of my chin, "I'm sorry for bruising your ego. But you should understand that mine is just bigger than yours."

Excuse me? Okay, now he's really just mocking me. I could tell he was only trying to bait me, but I was ready to bite, hook, line, and sinker.
