"What do you mean my ego was bruised?" I asked.

"Isn't that the case?" he asked as he left me and stood behind his chair. "You boasted that you can make men bend a knee; yet I didn't."

He had gotten me.

"If you've only been used to having men do your bidding because of how powerful you are…" he continued, "what would happen if you met someone unable to bend? Would you maintain your stand? Or would you realize that in the end, you're just all talk when it comes to me?"

I frowned at his questions; yet I didn't answer. There was a chance that someone had sent him to torment me.

He burst into laughter, startling me. "I was kidding. I really want to work with you. There are a lot of things you can teach me. If you want, I can become more submissive, according to your desire. Just give me a chance to learn from your success."

"If that's the case, then no problems," I affirmed. "No funny business. You can start tomorrow. But any funny business and you're banished."

"I will stay in line, your Majesty," he promised as he bowed his head.

"Meet Alex for more information before you leave," I instructed. "You can tour the hospital first as well."

"Thank you for the opportunity," he said as he left the office.

As the door closed, I let out a sigh of relief. That arrogant pile of flesh was working for me. I didn't want to let him leave. He still seemed familiar. I wanted to make sure that I got to the bottom of this. Also…I was still turned on.

Chapter five

We Meet Again

Tabitha

Bruce assumed work the next day. I had my hands occupied, and he worked with a doctor who Alex assigned to him until I was ready to ask Bruce to work closely with me. When he showed up, there was no playful glint or arrogant smile.

He had dressed sharply in a white short-sleeved shirt, his hair was neatly drawn back, and the scent of his cologne, while mild, pulled in everyone into his radius. There was no way I would have forgotten about anyone that good-looking.

Unfortunately, I couldn't ask him anything important. Besides, that evening, I needed to visit Father's manor. He had summoned my presence, and from the looks of things, my siblings were going to be in attendance. I wanted to be there, just in case the old bastard was dying and wanted to read his will.

He was an evil ass, but those kinds of people never fail to shower us with gifts. He used a “punish with the left hand and love with the right hand” method. So, immediately after work had cleared up, I headed to the manor.

"Welcome back, Tabitha," Sebastian greeted with a warm smile.

The man may have been our butler, but he was more of a father than our biological one was.

"It's good to see you again, Sebastian," I retorted. "Are the other's here yet?"

"You're the first," he answered. "Would you like some tea?"

"No, I'll just lay down for a bit," I responded. I excused myself and went to my childhood room. The bed was still as big as I remembered. Pillows would usually be soaked with my tears after Father’s beatings had been completed".

I hate this place.

"Well, well, well," I announced with amusement. "If it isn't the prodigal son. I heard rumors that you had returned…and you didn't leave us a card."

Lucas, my older brother, had just arrived.

"Wouldn’t you justloveto know that your elder brother is doing well and healthy, Tabitha?" he mocked with a smile.

I frowned, "Unfortunately, I had hope that you had died in a ditch or something." I rolled my eyes and sat down at the dinner table. "Then again, you have the durability of that old bastard."

"If you hate him so much, why are you here ?" he asked.
