Then, he’s gone, making his way to his office on the other end of the building. I watch him for far too long before I realize I should head over to Myles if I don’t want to call attention to myself.

There’s a strange tension growing in the pit of my stomach and I know it has everything to do with him.

London makes me feel things that I didn’t know I could feel. Hell, I probablyshouldn’tbe feeling.

Pushing everything aside, I walk to the bar and set my briefcase on the floor. Then, I hop onto one of the stools.

“So, the two of you seem to get along,” Myles says, giving me some serious side-eye as she wipes the insides of a glass with a towel.

Despite myself, I can feel the blood rush to my face. “Yeah, it’s always been that way. London’s great.”

Myles nods, keeping her eyes on the glass. “He really is. I just wish he’d realize it.”

My eyebrows tug in and I find myself leaning closer to the bar. “What do you mean?”

Her eyes find mine and for the first time, I notice she has two different colored irises—one blue and one more of a hazel color. It’s not quite green—not quite brown.

“Your eyes …” I practically whisper, mesmerized.

She shrugs, setting the glass down. “Yeah, it’s called heterochromia. I was born with it.”

“That’s so cool.”

She grins and picks up another glass. “Well, it was annoying as fuck as a kid.”

I sigh, then nod. “I can relate.”

She tips her chin my way. “Cleft lip, right?”

I nod. “Palate, too.”

“Was it painful? You know, going through the surgeries?”

“Well, I don’t really remember the big ones. I wasn’t even a year old. So …” I shrug. “But the ones to rebuild my jaw, those were not fun. I had them done once my adult teeth had all come in.”

“Ouch.” Myles shudders. “And I thought normal puberty was a pain in the ass.”

“Right?” I agree. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to go off the rails. You were saying something about London—that he doesn’t realize he’s great?”

She chuckles under her breath. “Yeah, that asshole is always trying to help out. He’ll go out of his way to make sure everyone’s happy, but the guy can’t ever look out for himself. You know?”

I shake my head. “I don’t really know him. Not anymore, anyway.”

“Oh, yeah. I forgot. You guys seem so natural together—it’s like you’ve known each other forever,” she says, swapping out for another glass.

“Well, you’re not wrong. We have known each other for a long time. But we had this big estrangement when his family moved.”

“You didn’t keep in touch?” Again, her eyes meet mine.

“No. My family wasn’t a fan of technology. I grew up barely knowing how a computer worked. So, when London’s family took him away, the only computer time I had was at school.”

“He never called? You never called him?”

I shrug. “I mean, I guess I would have. But I didn’t even know his new number. When he lived in Duluth, we were neighbors, so it was easy to just track him down. You know?”

Her cheeks mound and she nods. “Well, you found each other again. That’s pretty damn special.”

“Yeah, it is,” I whisper, smiling to myself.
