Then, with a slow smirk, London says in a low rumble, “I prefer Dirty Deeds, too.”

Something about the gravel in his voice and the way he says it sends a chill straight down my spine—and then it travels further south. I shift in my seat and bite my lip.

God, that confession should not have sounded so hot.

CHAPTER14

Lily

“What are you doing? I have a store to run, you know?” Tasia says, trying to get out from under my forced hand.

Instead, I ignore her complaints and continue to push her into the back room of Dirty Books. I’m having a freak out moment and I need someone to help me clear my head. She was the easiest to find—and also the one with the most level head.

When we’re far enough away from the door, I stop moving.

“Tash, I need help. I—” I drop my hands from her shoulders and take a step back.

Tasia twists around. “What is it? What’s going on?”

I twist my hands in front of my body. “I don’t know. I’m just so freaking confused.”

She quirks an eyebrow, her eyes tracking my movements. “About?”

I take a deep breath, unsure what in the hell to say. How do I tell her that I keep noticing London in ways I really shouldn’t? Or that the more time I spend with him, the more I question my life—mymarriage.

“There’s this vibe…” I begin.

“With?” Tash prods, trying to help me along.

“London,” I whisper, pleading with my eyes for her to understand.

She narrows her gaze. “Did he do something? Do I need to kick his ass?”

“I think…I think I almost kissed him,” I blurt out, then cover my mouth with my hands.

“What?” Her eyes nearly bug out of her head.

Great.

“London—I almost kissed him.” I throw my hands up in exasperation. “At least, I think we almost … I mean, there was a moment when it seemed like maybe … ? We were upstairs and there were these paintings and—”

I stop talking, realizing how precariously close to the rules of the NDA I was tip-toeing to.

“Hold up.” Tasia shakes her head and raises a hand. “You went to your first official day on the job and almost kissed your boss?”

“He’s not my boss. He’s my—” I freeze. I was about to say best friend, but that’s no longer true. Besides, Tasia would kick my ass if I said that because she’s been my best friend for what feels like forever.

Her scowl deepens.

I run my fingertips over my right eyebrow. “I’m freaking out here, Tash.”

“Lily, you know I love you. So, this is coming from that place, okay?” She gives me a pointed stare, then continues, “What about Seth?”

“Iknow,” I groan, feeling like I was just kicked in the gut.

“Do you have feelings for London?” she presses.

It’s my time to pin her with a stare. “Of course, I do. We were so close as kids. But I don’t—”
