“Wanna see what a normal night in the Upper Tier is like?” I ask, my heart hammering in my chest.

I shouldn’t be doing this, but hell, I’m gonna anyway.

I want to see how she responds to the Upper Tier.

“What?” she asks, breathlessly. Her cheeks flush and her eyes sparkle with excitement. “You mean … While they’re—” She points upward.

The way her voice squeaks is so damn cute.

Getting her flustered just might be my new favorite pastime.

Smirking, I shrug. “Yeah, why not? Consider it research.” I reach out for her hand. “Come on.”

CHAPTER20

Lily

“Isn’t it a little early?” I ask, my voice a hushed whisper as we walk down the hallway toward the club’s dance floor. My heart is thumping hard and I’m fairly certain it’s about to flutter away.

I want to understand how the club works by seeing it in action—but for some reason, seeing how it works also makes me incredibly nervous.

Well, that, and having London be the one to show me.

He checks his watch. “Nope.”

Confused, I bite down on the side of my lip. He notices and stops walking to turn to face me.

“Do you remember what it looked like upstairs?” he asks, quirking an eyebrow.

Taking a deep breath, I nod, but that doesn’t help ease the confusion.

“There are no clear rules for when the Upper Tier can use the space. That was deliberate. While yes, the majority of them come later in the evening, there are a few who like their afternoons …” he offers, shooting me a knowing look. “Fridays are a favorite.”

I can’t help it, I shake my head. “It seems so weird. Like dirty deeds should be done under the cover of night or something.” Heat rushes to my cheeks and I glance down.

“There aren’t any windows upstairs, Lily,” he says quietly. “It’s perpetual evening up there.”

My eyes widen and I raise my eyes to his. “Oh, right. I totally forgot about that.”

London laughs, grabbing hold of my hand and tugging me along behind him. Surprised by the sudden contact, I stare at the way our hands are joined. Butterflies erupt in my belly, yet, for the life of me, I can’t bring myself to let go. Instead, a part of me actually revels in it.

“While it’s not a big deal forthisevent, knowing how some of them use the space might end up being an important fact to remember. Especially if you help us host another event down the road,” he says over his shoulder as he drops my hand and enters the main dance club area.

“Right, right,” I mutter, surprised by the sudden sense of loss when his hand is no longer connected to mine.

The DJ is on the stage, getting ready for the night and I wave as we walk past. He smiles back and waves in return. We haven’t been introduced yet, but I make a mental note to do so when I have the chance.

“What are you two up to?” Myles calls out from across the bar.

“Research,” London responds without even glancing her direction.

His rushed pace makes me wonder if he’s nervous or excited to show me how things work.

Does he think this is weird? Is he just trying to get it over with?

“Is there a theme today?” I ask, trying to keep my mind off of what we might see when we get upstairs.

“What do you mean?” he asks, turning a quizzical expression in my direction.
