“All right. I’ll head out at once,” I mumbled. I dashed off before you could blink twice.

As I left, I still couldn’t help but wonder why he sent me to meet up with the ‘man.’

He could have sent his secretary, courier, or anyone one, couldn’t he? But then he wouldn’t be able to annoy me. I’m not going to give him the satisfaction of upsetting me. Not now and not ever,“ I said sternly.

A message popped on my screen. It was an email from the secretary. I took a deep breath and began walking out of my office.

“Are you heading out, Miss?” The receptionist asked.

I stared at her. I had to stop the intense urge to snap at her.

“Yes, I’m heading out. I’ll be back before the end of the day. Why do you ask?’ I inquired, smiling at her.

“Oh, it’s nothing, miss. Just asking.”

“All right, then. I’ll see you later,” I said. I went out into the open air, smiling as I left.

I had no idea why I was smiling. I got to my car and drove to meet the client.

Chapter six

Mandy

Iwasmeetingtheclient at the Esperanza Hotel. It was exquisite, like nothing I have ever seen. The only positive thing about me being a courier for Roger today was to walk into this hotel.

I made my way to the front desk, smiling at the receptionist.

“Good day, Miss. Welcome to The Esperanza Hotel. How may we help you?” She asked.

“I’m here to meet with one of your guests. I’m not sure he has checked in, but he’s expecting me. So would it be okay for me to wait for him?”

“Of course, it’s not a problem, Miss. You can sit in the lobby while you wait for him.”

I was glad she was agreeable to it. I sat in the luxurious lobby, admiring everything around me. I was in awe as I took in the extravagant entrance. I could only imagine what the rest of the hotel was like.

I couldn’t help the urge to take a few pictures. A few minutes later, I was already bored. When I glanced at my watch, I realized I’d been there for almost half an hour.

How long do I wait for the ‘man’ to show up? I questioned.

I was sick and tired of sitting on my ass when I decided to take a walk. I stood up and accidentally bumped into someone, dropping my bag and spilling the entire contents across the floor.

“You should look ahead of you next time…” I began, stopping abruptly the moment I raised my head. Shockingly, it was a woman who looked so much like Roger. I had to do a double-take. The resemblance was unbelievable.

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going. I’ll help you pick up everything,” she repeatedly apologized to me.

My anger disappeared instantly. “Why does she resemble him so much,” I whispered to myself out loud. Unfortunately, I said it loud enough for her to hear.

“Resemble who?” She asked, her eyes fixed on me.

“It’s nothing. I find it odd how much you resemble my boss. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, and maybe I’m hallucinating,” I said, laughing a bit. She laughed, too, revealing her bright smile.

“Well, you know, maybe you’re right. I do have a brother here in New York. Who knows, he might be who you’re referring to,” she shrugged—not taking her eyes off me even a second.

“Really? That would be pure coincidence. Is your brother, by any chance, named Roger? Does he own a huge company here?”

“Yes, my brother’s name is Roger, and he owns a company here. I guess it could be he’s the same person, my brother, and your boss.”

“Geez! Give me a minute to get his picture,” I said. I began to scroll through my phone in search of Roger’s picture. Finding one took me a while, and I quickly handed her the phone with his picture.
