“How in heaven’s name did he know I work here? Damn it!” I cursed aloud, clenching my hands into fists. I turned back and tried to leave, but it was too late. He already saw me.

“Mandy,” he called loudly, running towards me.

I was pissed about everything that pertained to him. His voice irked me like never before. I had a strong urge to punch him in the face.

“Why are you here?” I snapped. I was disgusted at the sight of him. “How’d you even manage to find me here?”

“I have my ways. When I heard you were back, I found out you’re working here for some billionaire. I needed to tell you I’m extremely sorry for how I treated you in the past.” Kade said.

“Why this sudden need to find me and give a pathetic apology?”

He was silent for a few seconds as he continued to fiddle with his fingers. I was highly irritated with him. I had little patience for the games he was playing.

“Are you going to speak? If not, you better get the hell out of here!” I yelled.

He straightened up and stared me in the eyes. “I thought we could, perhaps, patch things up. We could get back together. I miss you so much! I want you back,” he confessed.

I was shocked at first but got over it quickly. I burst into a long round of laughter that attracted the attention of others.

I was about to speak when I felt a hand on my side. I trembled, raising my head to see who it was. It was Roger. His bright smile made me wonder about what he was planning to do.

“Yes, how may we help you?” He asked. His gaze fixed on Kade. I could see the immediate confusion on Kade’s face. He glared at me as if to ask what was going on.

“What do you mean by ‘how may we help you’? Why’s your boss holding you by your waist?” He asked, recognizing Roger at once. I swallowed hard. I was going to speak, but Roger gently tapped me on my side.

“Well, she’s my fiancée. That makes my question valid, so how may we help you?” Roger questioned.

Kade’s face turned sour. I could see the outright disappointment in him. Roger’s words floored me. I was going to ask him about it, but first, I had to enjoy watching the look of pain on my ex’s face.

“Wait, Mandy, please tell me he’s joking. He’s joking, right?” Kade questioned.

“Why would we joke about something like this? He’s telling you the truth. Now, excuse us.” I said, turning with Roger’s hand still clasped to mine.

“I’m no fool. I’m not going to believe this crap story. I’ll never believe it. Please listen to me, Mandy,” Kade went on. He was starting to create a scene.

“I’m going to prove it to you then,” Roger said. Without warning, he pulled me close, planting a kiss on my lips. I froze, unable to believe what was going on. He’d tightened his hold on me, and Stefan walked up at that moment.

“What’s going on here?” He asked. His eyes flickered uncontrollably. He was agitated and couldn’t hide it. No matter how hard he tried.

“Exactly what you just saw.” Roger smiled at him, turning towards me. “If you don’t mind, I have to head home now. I’ll see you both later.”

“No, Mandy. You can’t do this to me. Please,” Kade continued to yell. It was deafening, disrupting the workflow.

Roger turned to the receptionist as he left, “Please call security to get him out of here.”

“All right, sir. I’ll get to it at once…”

Stefan looked at me, outraged. He pulled me to the nearest elevator, panting as if he’d just completed a marathon.

When we got on the elevator, I stared at Stefan, my hands at my side.

“What? Why are you staring at me like that?” Stefan asked.

“Why did you suddenly pull me into the elevator?”

“I should be the one interrogating you and not the other way around. Why are you kissing Roger?”

“Don’t tell me what has gotten you all worked up? It was for show. And for the record, we met in Milan a while back,” I announced, shrugging my shoulders.
