Stefan was very quiet for a moment as he concentrated on something. Instantly, it was like lightning struck him. He became furious and demanding.

“I need you to stay away from Roger immediately. You need to resign from your position.”

I was so confused and couldn’t process what he was even talking about.

“What do you mean I should quit?”

“Don’t ask me any more questions. Just do as I say and do it immediately,” Stefan demanded.

We arrived at the eighth floor, where he had to get off. He shot me a demeaning look that spoke he wasn’t joking around.

I wondered what had suddenly come over him. What would make him act that way? Nothing that I came up with made any sense. I was still thinking about this when I heard a beep on my phone.

It was a message from Roger. He wanted us to talk and sent his address to his penthouse. Because his best friend and my brother warned me to stay away from him, I knew I shouldn’t reply to his text. As always, when it comes to Roger, common sense escapes me. I sent a text back and headed towards the penthouse.

Chapter eight

Mandy

IorderedanUberusing the directions Roger sent.

It took only thirty minutes to arrive in front of a gigantic building. I gasped as I looked up at the Penthouse.

“Here you are, ma’am,” the Uber driver said.

I thanked him, and as I got out of the car, I took a moment to look at the building from where I was standing. I gazed up and sighed. I knew he was wealthy, but I never imagined he’d be living in a glass house. The impressive sight took my breath away. I was mesmerized by the 10-story glass structure that stood before me.

I re-read the text message to remind me where I was supposed to meet him.

I breathed deeply as I headed inside the building, where security stopped me.

“Good day, Ma’am. Who are you here to see?” Security asked me politely.

“Hi, I’m here to see Roger. He lives in the Penthouse on the tenth floor,” I answered.

Security raised a questioning eyebrow at me, “I need his last name as well, Ma’am. All visitors are confirmed and checked in before they are allowed their visits.”

I nodded, “Oh, I’m Sorry, his name is Roger Day.”

He communicated with additional security through his earpiece and a few spoken words, then smiled at me.

“My apologies for keeping you waiting, Ma’am. Head to security by the elevator. Mr. Day is expecting your arrival,” he replied.

On my ride up, I couldn’t help but wonder what the interior would look like. My wait was over, and the doors opened, revealing wealth beyond my imagination.

I stepped into the entryway of ‘the glass Penthouse.’ My eyes widened in awe as I took in the breathtaking sight. The entire structure seemed to float above the city, at the top of a skyscraper. The floor-to-ceiling windows surrounded the Penthouse, allowing an uninterrupted view of the sprawling metropolis below.

The interior was a seamless blend of modern elegance and minimalist design. The spacious living area was decorated with sleek, contemporary furniture. The walls were adorned with tasteful abstract paintings in vibrant hues, added splashes of color, contrasting with the pristine white walls.

I wandered throughout the Penthouse. My mouth opened in astonishment everywhere I looked. A state-of-the-art chef’s kitchen with sleek stainless steel appliances complimented by luxurious marble countertops. It was designed for those who appreciated the art of cooking, with every modern convenience.

The primary bedroom was a sanctuary with a king-sized bed and moonlit glass walls. The spa-worthy bathroom had the most amazing deep soaking tub with a waterfall feature to fill it. And an enormous glass-enclosed shower with more jets than I could count and rain shower water heads above. I’d never seen anything so spectacular.

Stepping out onto the expansive terrace, I was greeted by a panoramic view. It was breathtaking, and the glass railing provided an unobstructed view.

“Are you finished exploring?” a voice asked behind me.

I jumped as Roger’s voice startled me. I looked at him and suddenly remembered that he’d invited me here. I hadn’t even looked for him while I was entertaining myself snooping. Instead, I’d taken the liberty to explore his home.
