I felt better after screaming for the second time today.

“Let’s get going. My brother’s been texting me non-stop,” she said.

“Tell him to get lost,” I snapped.

Bella laughed, “I just did… but we need to go. I’ve got a brilliant idea of how to set up the perfect setting for our romances.”

Bella drove back, and we headed to my office. Roger was standing in front of my door.

“Can I please have a word with you?” he asked.

I desperately wanted to say no. The incredible morning with Bella gave me enough strength to feel at peace. I knew I could handle a conversation with Roger.

“Sure,” I replied.

“I’m sorry about earlier this morning, Mandy,” he apologized.

“You don’t have to explain yourself to me. You can do whatever you want.”

Roger shook his head, “I do have to explain, Mandy. I need you to understand some things.”

Sitting at my desk, I pretended I didn’t care what he did or wanted to say to me. But it wasn’t working.

“What do you want me to understand, Roger?” I asked, exhausted.

I needed to schedule a checkup with my doctor soon. I was feeling dizzy and tired at the slightest thing.

“I called Jessica,” he said.

My heart sank. “Oh, well, that’s great.” I managed to say.

He shook his head. He suddenly understood what my words meant. “No! I didn’t call her to get back with her,” he immediately said.

I raised an eyebrow. A glimmer of hope shone in my eyes, “Okay.”

“I warned her to stay away for good,” he said.

“That’s great. At least your ex listens,” I replied bitterly.

His brows furrowed as he stared at me, “Has Kade been disturbing you?”

I stared at my buzzing phone. There’s no way I’d tell him about Kade’s messages. Ignoring them, some were sweet words, but some contained threatening text messages.

I shook my head and lied instead. If I wanted to leave his life, I’d learn to start detaching myself from him gradually.

“No, he isn’t disturbing me.”

“Are you sure, Mandy?” he asked.

“I can take care of myself, Roger.” I snapped.

Roger went silent. He turned to leave when Bella walked in.

“Roger, you just hit your highest month’s sales ever! We have to celebrate this milestone. I’m throwing a party for the entire company tonight!” Bella exclaimed and winked at me.

Her wink told me she was planning the party but had a hidden agenda. Thankfully I wouldn’t be at the party. I had a doctor’s appointment. But, as usual, fate had other plans.

I watched Bella. She kept jumping around, squealing like an excited dolphin. She seemed so happy to throw this party. I wondered if there was an ulterior motive for her throwing the party.
