“Oh, it’s such a relief to hear that strong heartbeat. Is everything looking good?” I asked. Tears filled my eyes as I thought about the baby growing up without a father.
“It sure is, Mandy! Your baby’s heartbeat sounds strong and healthy. It’s a good sign of your baby’s development. You’re doing a great job taking care of yourself,” the doctor praised me.
“Everything is progressing as expected, and your baby’s growing beautifully, right on track. You’re sixteen weeks.“
His words reassured me, and I smiled at him, “That’s wonderful news, Dr. Anderson. Thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome, Mandy. Is there anything else you need or any questions?” He asked me.
“I don’t think so.”
“We’ll need to schedule additional tests and an ultrasound in a few weeks. If you have any questions, contact us. Otherwise, I’ll see you at your next checkup,” he concluded.
“Thank you so much,” I said.
“You’re welcome.” Dr. Anderson replied.
I thanked the nurses as I was leaving and checked my messages. I received one from the leasing agent about a new place for me to live. I’d contacted her after receiving more threats from Kade—It’s time to move and live my life.
I requested a house in a quiet and secure neighborhood. It seems they’ve found something. I needed somewhere safe for me and my baby. I texted the agent back to let her know I could meet her.
I drove to the charming bungalow house in a serene and picturesque neighborhood. There’s a well-manicured garden with vibrant flowers and lush greenery. The front yard was a symphony of colors, with blooming roses, daisies, and tulips, creating a welcoming and inviting atmosphere.
I saw the lease agent standing in the foyer, and she smiled at me.
“Welcome, Mandy. Explore the house and tell me if it’s to your liking,” she said.
“Thank you,” I nodded at her.
I turned to my left and noticed a cozy living room. There were plush sofas and chairs arranged around a beautiful fireplace. The room was tastefully decorated with artwork decorating the walls.
Continuing through the house, I entered a kitchen that would delight any cooking enthusiast, with modern appliances and ample storage space. The scent of freshly brewed coffee permeated the air. Then I headed to the patio.
“I love it!” I said to the woman as she joined me on the patio.
The woman smiled, “I knew you would. There’s also a security system installed in the house. It included cameras for the entire outside.”
“Please send the lease papers to my email. I’ll wire the money today,” I said to her.
She beamed as I nodded, thankful my generous salary allowed me to lease such a perfect place. I’ve no intention of going back to Milan. My good job will enable me to live in this lovely house and support me and the baby.
Eventually, Roger would find out about the baby, even if he didn’t know it was his. Either way, I’m not leaving New York again. No matter what Kade does.
I stared at the message from Bella. She sent it an hour ago telling me the party starts at 7 p.m. and would love to see me there. It was just past 7 p.m., so I reluctantly gave in and went. I could hear the music as soon as I walked inside.
The party was in full swing—an atmosphere of excitement and celebration. Banners and signs congratulated everyone on their dedication and hard work. The space had transformed into a festive scene. It seems that Bella had outdone herself.
A DJ booth was set up in one corner, pulsating with energic music as employees laughed and danced.
A long table displayed endless food and cocktails. The choices were endless. Even the bartender’s options were a display to be in awe of.
Laughter and clinking glasses filled the space. Many toasts were given for the successful year.
Bella ran towards me when she saw me, a smile on her face. “You came,” she beamed at me.
