Standing was impossible. I needed a hospital. He refused to return my phone and panicked.

“I’m sorry,” he freaked out, throwing my phone as he bolted.

“Kade!” I cried out.

The pain was getting unbearable, and I could only cry. I attempted to crawl to my phone, but I couldn’t seem to move much at all. It was impossible. The tears began pouring from my eyes when I realized my phone was the same distance as the entrance.

I began to see spots appear in my vision, and I felt so weak. “So close…” I mumbled just before I closed my eyes. A silent prayer left my lips as I hoped nothing would happen to my baby.

I looked around at the raging party going on. I wasn’t interested; besides, it was for the employees anyway. They’ve worked hard and deserved the recognition. I just wanted to be with Mandy.

I’ve been calling and texting Mandy repeatedly, with no response. It’s a sure sign that she’s furious with me and choosing not to respond. I hope I’ve not fucked this up for good.

I know I have strong feelings for Mandy. I only need a few moments alone to tell her how I feel.

I entered my office and saw Stephan with a girl in the shadows. The closer I got, the more I realized Bella was the girl in the shadows. “Well, you seem…” I trailed off, trying to come up with something clever to say.

“There’s nothing for you to see here, Roger. Move on,” Bella murmured, slightly embarrassed.

I laughed at the embarrassment in her eyes. “No problem. I didn’t see a thing. Stefan, I’ll be in my office if you’d like to stop in and have a drink.”

Stefan smiled before Bella interrupted, “Hey, Mandy’s here. I thought you’d want to know. I asked her to wait for me but saw her walk outside.”

I couldn’t hide the smile on my face when I told Bella, “I’ll go look for her.”

I waded through the drunk bodies of my employees, ignoring their misbehavior.

The door slammed shut behind me as I headed down the driveway, away from the loud music. I hoped to find Mandy sitting on the hood of a car, avoiding all the chaos.

I stopped suddenly before I got to the parking lot. I saw someone sprawled on the ground near the dark corner of the building. I couldn’t make out who it was.

“Who’s there?” I called out cautiously. I played it safe, making sure it wasn’t a trap.

There was only silence, no response. I crept closer, and my heart rate accelerated rapidly. The moonlight revealed it was Mandy, and I felt like I just walked into a nightmare.

“Mandy!” I shouted, trying to wake her up and yelling for help simultaneously. She didn’t move and was completely limp.

I finally heard her moan faintly, but her eyes remained shut. She seemed to be trying to say something but slipped into unconsciousness again.

I had to get her help. I scooped her up, sprinting to my car. Tires screeched as I peeled out of the parking lot, driving like a madman through New York’s streets.

My driving skills proved beneficial as I pushed the Porsche’s speedometer past the limit. I blew through the red lights, ignoring speed limits. Desperate to get help, I was deaf to all the horns blaring and squealing breaks around me. Six speeding tickets wouldn’t stop me- nothing could stop me from helping Mandy.

I came to an immediate halt at the Emergency Department doors. I rushed to lift Mandy as I yelled for help. Nurses rushed out with a stretcher and watched helplessly while they wheeled her into the Emergency Department.

A doctor came out to ask me what had happened. I could only tell him that I found her unconscious outside.

“Will she be alright?” I asked, fear racing through my veins.

“I won’t know until we examine and thoroughly check her out. Go to registration, and they’ll show you to the waiting room when you finish signing her in.” The doctor turned and walked into the Emergency Department.

I nodded, knowing I couldn’t push him for additional information. I considered calling Stefan but didn’t want to ruin his night. The doctor made it sound like it could take a few hours before they would know anything. I would contact him then.

I had no clue what could’ve happened to Mandy, but I knew I couldn’t live without her. The thought made me feel like I was drowning.

I paced outside the Emergency Department, peeking through the glass door. The wait was torture. I needed to talk to and tell her everything; there was no holding back this time.

I finally decided to sit and close my eyes, trying to figure out what happened. I felt a tap on my shoulder. I guess I dozed off. When I looked up, the doctor was standing in front of me.
