“Thank you.”

“You can see her now. She should be awake.” He opened the door and showed me to her room.

I saw her through the glass door as she was talking to the nurse. I took several slow, deep breaths to calm down and hold back the anger boiling in my mind.

Chapter thirteen

Roger and Mandy

IwalkedintoMandy’sroom and saw the look of fear cross her face before the nurse settled her. She looked at me with an attempt at a smile.

“The nurse said that you were the one who brought me here,” she said.

I just nodded, not trusting myself with what I would say.

“Thank you,” she said.

The nurse finished up and left. I faced the window, focusing on staying calm.

“Are you alright?” she asked.

“Why?”

She blinked, “I don’t understand. You’re acting weird. You seem like something is wrong.”

“What happened to you?” I changed the subject.

“Kade happened. He’s been harassing me with calls and text messages since that day at the office,” she replied.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked, my eyes widening in shock.

“I thought I could handle it. I didn’t know it would come to this.”

“Yeah, like you handle everything that you’re going through. How much are you hiding from me? Lying to me about?” I was pissed off now.

“I don’t understand. What’s going on with you, Roger?”

“You’re pregnant. Ring any bells?” I asked, my anger rising to the surface.

She swallowed and opened her mouth to talk but closed it back. “How did you know?” she asked softly.

“What the fuck? Is that your response when I catch you in a massive lie?” I was shocked.

“I don’t need to explain myself to you, Roger, but I didn’t lie,” she snapped.

“Oh, you just omitted the part where you’re pregnant? Well, isn’t it interesting that you choose what is lying and what is not?”

“That’s because it’s not relevant,” she snapped.

“Not relevant? I’ve only slept with you a few times. Right? Do you think I sleep around with every pregnant whore?” I growled.

I didn’t expect it, but she slapped me hard. She’d gotten out of bed to do it. Wow! Three times a charm. You’d think I’d learn to avoid her slap by now.

“Fuck you, Roger!” she snapped.

The hurtful words I used registered then. “Shit! I didn’t mean it like that, Mandy.”

“Get out!”
