I glared at her. “I’ve just found out that the woman I saved tonight, the one I was terrified of losing, is possibly pregnant by someone else. Excuse me for being upset, and if I’m not thrilled, you kept it a secret from me.”

I noticed the confused look on her face, and then it was followed by a pained look, which she quickly hid.

“Is there anything else you’ve lied about, Mandy? Is there anything you’d like to tell me now?” I asked, trying to calm my racing heart.

“Fuck you!” she snapped.

“Look, I’m sorry for what I said to you, but don’t blame me. You’re making this hard,” I said.

“What do you want? You saved me, and you found out I’m pregnant. Now you know. Please, leave me alone,” she said in a tired voice.

I blinked, “I should just leave you alone? Don’t I deserve an explanation, at least? Like, who’s the father?”

The look in her eyes made me stop for a moment. I thought about the timing and what was happening sixteen weeks ago. My eyes widened as anger filled them again.

“You’ve been carrying my baby for four months, and you hid it, not telling me?”

Mandy cringed at the tone of my voice. “It’s not like that. You didn’t make it easy to say anything.”

“I’m sorry, what part wasn’t easy? You’ve had plenty of opportunities to tell me you are carrying my child! Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I don’t know if you would be a good father!” she snapped.

I sucked in a breath like I’d been punched in the gut. I took a step back from her.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that, Roger, it’s just then…”

I raised a hand, cutting her off. “I’ll tell Stefan to pick you up and take you to his place. You’ll be safer with him than on your own.”

“Roger…”

I turned and walked out of the room, the door slamming shut. My chest constricted as I tried to focus on breathing more than anything else. It suddenly felt impossible to do anything but breathe.

The world was spinning, and I struggled to see past the memories that welled up in my mind. I continued to breathe deeply and accidentally bumped into someone on my way out.

It was the doctor.

“Mr. Day, are you alright?” He asked.

I faked a smile, “Yes. I’m going home. Mandy’s brother will be here to pick her up.”

Before he could say more, I stepped out of the hospital, gulping lungfuls of fresh air. I entered my car and ordered a security guard to watch at her door. With the windows up, I unleashed an ear-shattering scream.

I quickly texted Stefan and drove off, my mind flashing with memories of life before my parents died.

I focused on the road to avoid missing the hidden turn and pulled in, parking my car. I began my climb up the mountain, my one place of solace, even at midnight.

I started to feel a migraine coming on as memories of our fight flashed through my mind. What was I thinking when I said those words? Why didn’t I tell him about the baby?

I stared at the slamming door, immediately regretting my hurtful words. I wish he’d come back. We needed to talk and try to figure this whole thing out. I’ve used all of my wishes because he didn’t return.

I glanced at the IV in my hand. I’m going to leave as soon as it’s finished infusing.

Just then, the door opened. Stefan and Bella rushed in, both very concerned.

“Are you alright?” Bella asked, hugging me tight with Stefan right behind her.

“What are you guys doing here?” I asked, faking a surprise and trying to determine if Roger told them anything.
