I took a deep breath, ready to jump in with both feet. I’d either make or break my career. I’m prepared either way. No regrets.

“In my relationship with Jessica, I felt the next logical step was getting engaged, but I had blinders on. I didn’t stop to consider the possibility of true love. Was I even in love with her? We looked good together, and the public agreed and liked us as a couple. I thought that marriage seemed to be the next obvious step.”

There was silence in the conference hall as the reporters took notes. I caught Bella’s eyes, and she rolled them at me before giving me a thumbs up. I smiled and continued.

“I lost Jessica after the proposal, but I never forced her into anything. It doesn’t matter that she chose Jamie. I know losing her was a blessing in disguise for me,” I smiled.

There were murmurs rippling throughout the hall. The reporters had yet to learn what I was aiming at.

“How so?” a reporter asked.

“My team wanted me to take a break. Head to Milan and take some time to reflect and move on.” I replied, “That’s where the next race was held. It’s there that I found true love.”

Screams and cheers erupted from the press. I couldn’t help but share their enthusiasm as I continued.

“I met an amazing woman, but I got scared. I left her there and ran home to New York. She’d unlocked feelings I wasn’t prepared to deal with, so running away from them was my logical choice,” I continued as I stared at Mandy.

We smiled at each other. It’s our story. It wasn’t right for me to tell it alone, so I asked her to join me at the podium. She blushed furiously.

“Please come to the stage and tell our story with me, Mandy,” I grinned.

Loud applause came from the crowd, encouraging Mandy to join me.

Bella helped Mandy navigate her way through the crowd towards me. I took her hand and kissed her knuckles, making the crowd cheer.

“Roger,” she whispered in my ears.

“Trust me,” I said to her.

She nodded and smiled at the press as flashes of cameras and screams filled the air again.

“Is she your girlfriend?” a reporter asked.

“We’re getting to that part,” I laughed, and they all joined me.

Mandy stared at me, cleared her throat, and a dazzling smile formed on her face; it mesmerized me.

“Hello, people of New York,” she began, waiting for the cheers to die down before she continued, “After Roger fled Milan—“

Laughter from the crowd interrupted her. She smiled before she continued.

”—I found out I was pregnant. I knew I had to track him down, which brought me here to New York. I thought he was a total ass hole, but I still had to confront him.”

There was another round of laughter, and I smiled before she continued.

“I lucked into a job when I’d planned to confront him. Because he was a total asshole to me initially, I hid the pregnancy from him. Over several months of working for him, I saw his generous heart and kind soul. Our baby is what brought us closer.”

I wrapped my hands around her waist and kissed her softly before I faced the reporters.

“That’s our story of how I found love in Milan and a baby on the way.”

A reporter asks, “Does this mean you don’t care about Jessica?”

“Jessica and Jamie are a match made in heaven. I wish for them the same wishes they gave me.” I replied with a wide smile.

The crowd cheered again. I faced Mandy, ready for the big reveal of the night. I pulled out a ring box and dropped to one knee.

Mandy gasped, her hands covering her mouth. She was shocked, but I could see the love in her eyes. I knew I didn’t make a mistake. The crowd went wild with joy when they saw what I was doing.
