We break away breathlessly, smiling at one another.

"I think we both know this wasn't a mistake," she whispers softly, her voice packed with emotion.

I nod, running my thumb along her jawline. "No, it wasn't. I want to give us a chance. If you can go slow and bear with me as my head battles my heart, I think we can do this."

"I can do that," she whispers.

"Okay, for now, this is just between us,” I say. “We won't need to tell anyone, as we are figuring this all out."

"I've been talking to Sky and Jenna, but I know they won't say anything," she says.

From what I’ve observed, I know that both the girls will keep quiet. So for now, we can take this one step at a time. I know she needs friends to talk to and I can't deny her that outlet. With a smile on my face, I lean in to give her another kiss.

We sit and watch the sunset and the conversation flows easily, like it always does. When the stars begin to fill the sky, Jenna starts yawning.

"Why are you so tired?" I ask concerned.

"I haven't been sleeping well since the other night."

She doesn't have to say since the night I let her walk away, but I know that is what she means.

"Well, let's get you to bed and get some sleep. We have an early day tomorrow."

When she nods, we go inside. Then, grabbing her bag, I take her to the guest room and set it down.

While she begins to get settled in, I stand in the doorframe watching her, feeling like a lovesick teenager all over again. But as much as I want to stay with her and spend the rest of the night talking, I know it wouldn't be wise.

"I'll be right down the hall if you need me." I place a kiss on the top of her head before going back downstairs to make sure everything is closed and locked up.

Tonight, I have something worth protecting in the house and I'm not taking any chances.

When I go upstairs and pass by her room, the door is cracked open, and her light is still on. Peeking in, I find her pulling the blankets back on the bed. She is in tiny cotton shorts and as she stretches to move the blankets, the shorts ride up and I can see a large part of the bottom of her curvy ass. I have to ball my fists at my side to keep from trying to grab her.

Watching her get into bed, I get the first look at the tank top she has on. The one that is so thin I can tell she doesn't have on a bra because I can see the outline of her nipples.

Without waiting another minute, I bolt to my room, closing the door behind me. I want nothing more than to go in and run my hands all over her. But if I'm going to do this, I'm going to do it right.

That means taking it slow.

Chapter 10

Jenna

LastnightIsleptbetter in Josh's house than I have in days. I thought having him down the hall would make it hard to sleep, but it was knowing that he was so close I felt comfortable and safe. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.

After sleeping so late, I was surprised when I made my way downstairs for the day. I hadn't been expecting to find Josh still in the kitchen reading and with a huge breakfast for me.

Smiling at the sight in front of me, I walk into the kitchen.

"Morning," I say, my voice still groggy from a night of deep sleep.

"Good morning, beautiful," Josh says, looking up from his book. "I hope you slept well."

I freeze standing by my chair and look at him. I’m shocked that he’s calling me beautiful. Even more so, that he’s admitting his feelings for me.

"I did," I reply, as I take a seat across from him. "And it smells like you've been busy in here."

"I wanted to make you something special," Josh says, pushing a plate of food towards me. "We have a big day ahead of us, and I want you to have plenty to eat."
