"She isn't a princess," I say, but he interrupts me.

"No, I know, but I...."

"No, you misunderstand me,” I say. ”She isn't a princess. She is my queen. My everything, and she will always come first."

We sit there as he digests what I just said and the meaning behind it.

"We talked with Jenna and said we'd like you two to start joining us for Sunday dinner again. It will take some time to get used to the two of you together, so I'm asking for a little grace as we move forward."

"That is up to her. If she wants to come, I will come with her." I say, and he nods.

"I stand by throwing that punch, and when you have a little girl, you will understand," he says.

"I don't have to have a little girl to understand. Though I would have been more shocked if you hadn't punched me."

That earns a smile from him.

"Thank you for helping the boys with the ranch. They are moving forward and are very excited. "

"I'm happy to help. Those boys are family." I tell him, and he nods.

We sit in silence for a few minutes, and again, I am the one to break it.

"You get that damn car up and going yet?"

"That thing is more stubborn than Jenna is. Could use an extra pair of hands on it this weekend," he says.

And just like that, I know we will be okay. But there is one more thing I need to handle first.

"I'm more than happy to help. But Evan?" I say and wait until he is looking at me.

"I'd like your blessing to ask Jenna to marry me. Either way, I plan to ask her. But it would mean more to have your blessing to do so." I say, waiting.

I can tell he isn't happy because he’s glaring at me.

"You couldn't wait until we got used to the idea of you two together first?" he says, clearly annoyed.

"When you knew Janet was it for you, did you want to wait?" I ask.

Slamming his hand down on his desk, he stands and walks over to the window. He stands there quietly, looking out at the part of the lake he can see. I can't even guess what is going through his head.

"You are the best man I know, Josh. Hardworking and loyal. Everything I have always wanted for her, yet it's still hard for me to be okay with you two together."

My heart sinks that he won't give his blessing, but I plan to make Jenna my wife anyway, and I'm okay with that. He will grow to be all right with us. Then he abruptly turns to face me.

"I will give you my blessing, but just know if you hurt her, the punch I gave you will seem like a feather kiss compared to the punishment you will get," he declares.

He gave me his blessing! I can't believe my ears. While I know we still have a long road ahead of us, at least Jenna will be at my side. That is all that matters.

Jenna

I was really hoping Josh would come into the diner after his talk with my dad, but I haven't heard a word. So, I wrapped up my shift a bit early and texted him.

On my way home.

See you when you get here.

I don't even know what to make of that. I hope it went well, and he's just busy. That would be the best-case scenario. In the worst case, it didn't go well, and I'm not going to like the talk that is ahead of us tonight. If needed, I'm ready to fight for us. Now that I have my parents back, I'm not giving up.
