When they head to the barn, the sound of tires crunching gravel fills the air from behind me. I turn and find a little four-door car pull into the driveway. No one I know would try to drive these roads with a car like that. I wait to see who it belongs to, and before long, a woman with long, straight black hair, steps out of the car and turns to me. Something in the air shifts.

"You must be Asher," she says, removing her sunglasses and walking toward me with a folder in her hand.

"Should I be worried you know my name, but I don't know yours?" I ask.

"It's a small town. People talk," she shrugs. Her deep brown eyes take me in. "I'm Kassi."

The name doesn't ring a bell, but I don’t know everyone in town either.

"Well, it's nice to meet you. What can I do for you?"

"It's what I can do for you," she says.

Suddenly I have pictures of her laid out on my bed doing plenty of stuff for me, but I doubt that is what she means.

She hands me the folder, and I glance at it.

Lunar Land Developing.

"That offer is more than generous and good for one year from today."

"We just bought this place. Why would we sell?" I say, instantly irritated.

"The ranch may not be all it's cracked up to be. My boss wants you to know we are serious about the land." She turns and goes back to her car. "Take a look. It's a good offer." She says this more softly as she gets in the car.

As she drives off, I realize I'm in so much trouble. That girl works with the enemy.

And she's going to be mine.
