My smile turned to a smirk. “Whatareyou after?”

“I don’t know!” He shrugged. “I don’t know. I’m just having a good time.”

I nodded once, firmly. “Good. Me too.”

“Good,” he said. After a quiet moment, he spoke again. “How often do you make it to a game like this?”

“I probably come once a month during the regular season, maybe more.”

Bennett nodded and bit his bottom lip briefly. “Have you ever seen a kickball game?”

A grin crept across my face. “No… why?”

“Maybe you’d want to come check out one of my games sometime. What do you think?”

My heart squeezed tight and there were flutters in my stomach. “I think I’d like that.”

“Good.” He shivered. “Since the game is pretty much over, maybe we can go inside? I’m getting chilly.”

“Of course we can.” I stood and put my hand on his middle back to guide him inside gently. Once the door was closed behind us, Bennett turned to face me.

“So…”

I raised my eyebrows. “Yes?”

He took a small step forward, closing the space between us, and pressed his lips to mine. I made a noise of surprise in the back of my throat and Bennett pulled away quickly.

“I’m sorry. Was that not okay?”

My hands went to his waist and pulled him back toward me, closer, until our bodies were touching. “It was perfect. I just wasn’t expecting it. Give me a chance, you know, to prepare myself.”

“Oh.” His voice was quiet, and it sent a shiver through me. “Are you prepared now?”

I nodded. “Something like that.” I dipped down and kissed him. He exhaled sharply through his nose as our mouths opened to one another, our tongues sliding together as I pulled him even closer. He draped his arms over my shoulders, loosely holding the back of my neck, and I buried my fingers in the t-shirt he was wearing, bunching it in my hands as I gripped him tight.

Everything seemed to disappear in that moment as we kissed. There was nothing but the sound of our breaths coming quickly, the crack of the bat against the ball outside of the box, and the thundering of my pulse in my ears. After several endless moments of kissing, Bennett pulled away, just enough to meet my gaze, and looked directly into my eyes. His pupils were wide and his lips were pink and a little swollen from my stubble. The sight of him made my cock twitch.

“Everything okay?”

He nodded slowly. “Better than okay.”

“Then why’d you stop?”

He looked down and chuckled, which is when I noticed he was hard, too, his erection pressing into my hip. His voice was barely more than a whisper when he spoke. “I think I’ve had enough baseball for today. How about you?”

Chapter Nine

Bennett

Nerves raced through me as we drove back to my house, my anxiety ratcheting up with every mile closer we drew. I couldn’t stop the bounce of my knee as I rode in Dex’s car, trying to think about anything other than that I’d practically insisted we leave the game early just so we could… what? Hook up?

What had come over me? I wasn’t that guy—the kind that slept with someone at the drop of a hat. Between the beer and the flirting, the occasional little touches, and that scorching hot kiss, I wanted Dex, and I didn’t want to wait.

He pulled into my driveway and threw the car into park before turning to face me. The second he did, I lunged over the center console and pulled him in for another kiss, our lips and tongues tangling as we came together desperately. The muffled sounds of our breathing filled my ears as he kissed me, tasting a little like the beer we’d been sipping all day, the scent of his woodsy cologne making me swoon.

Dex slid his hand along my thigh and up to cup my groin, pulling a groan from me as I rocked up into his touch. Hechuckled darkly and broke the kiss, pulling back to look into my eyes.

“Come inside,” I murmured before he could speak.
