Jude nodded, his smile knowing. “Absolutely.”

With that, Dex hurried us off down a hallway. We wandered through the museum together and for a little while we really did admire the art. After a few minutes, Dex turned to me and kissed me, roughly this time, thrusting his tongue into my mouth and gripping my ass hard, yanking me closer.

When we parted, I laughed and took a few gulps of air to catch my breath and steady myself. “You’re too much.”

“I’m yours,” he countered.

I smiled, the knowledge warming me. “That you are.”

We returned to the reception not long after. Dex joined our friends on the dance floor, and I took a seat at the table reserved for the kickball team. Levi was the only one sitting, and he was frowning deeply at his phone.

“You okay, man?”

He looked up at me and blinked. “I don’t know.”

“What’s wrong?”

“I don’t want to ruin the party. I’ll tell you later.”

I shook my head. “Seriously, man, what’s going on?”

Levi sighed and put his phone face down. “My mom just texted. You know how my grandpa passed a few weeks ago?”

My stomach turned. I hated Levi had to be with us, pretending to celebrate when he was grieving a loved one. I nodded. “Yeah. I’m so sorry, man.”

He waved away my condolences. “It’s okay. It’s just, apparently, he had a will, and the lawyer needs to see me next week. Weird, right?”

I shrugged. “He probably left you something. Pocket watches or something sentimental. Don’t stress over it.”

After a moment, Levi nodded. “Yeah. You’re probably right.” He looked around and then back at me. “I don’t want to think about it anymore. Let’s dance.”

“Excellent plan,” I agreed.

With that, I stood and found Dex, who was still dancing, and took him by the hand. We danced for the rest of the night, only stopping to eat and cut the cake. Hours later, when the party was over, he whisked me home, to the mansion I’d recently taken upon myself to decorate with a warm, lived-in feel, so far removed from the sterile, modern interior design that had existed when I first saw it. I wanted it to feel like ours. Our home, filled with our memories, and—to Dex’s endless amusement—our two dogs. I’d never been happier in my life.
