He steps back, still pointing the gun at us, and pulls out his phone. I glance at Raven and see her face is pale. The fury that was once on her face minutes ago is gone, and now in its place is shock to her core.

I gulp and grab her shaking hand as I look back over at Ben. He smiles at his phone before pocketing it.

Not even a full minute later, the door bangs open, and Ben walks to stand in front of me. “I can’t wait to start our new life together. Thank you for making this so easy, doll.”

A large hand comes from behind me and covers my mouth with a cloth that smells horrible. Before I can try to see if the same thing is happening to Raven, my eyes are falling shut, and then everything goes black.

My bones feel as if they weigh a thousand pounds. There is a loud sound coming from somewhere in front of me. To the right, I think, but I can’t bring myself to open my eyes all the way.

When I finally get them open, blinking slowly, the scarcely lit concrete room comes into focus. The sound is someone cursing and banging a chair. I look to my right and see Raven sitting in a chair with her arms tied behind her. She has a split lip, and her cheek is bright red. We’re in a small, dingy room with only one door in or out.

She yells and slams the chair down. “Stupid motherfucking cunt! I will fucking butcher you! I will rip you apart piece by fucking piece! You cock-sucking motherfucker!”

“Raven,” I croak.

Her head snaps in my direction, and her eyes soften as she lets out a breath. “Oh, thank God. Babe, are you okay? How do you feel? I woke up almost an hour ago, so I know they haven’t touched you yet.”

“Th–they?”

She nods solemnly. “Yeah, there are two guys with Ben. They hit the shit out of me when I woke up. They haven’t touched you, but I am guessing that’s because Ben said not to. He hasn’t been in here yet.”

“Raven,” I sob. “I’m s–sorry. What are we going to do?” I gasp as the panic sets in full force.

They tied my hands behind me, but I can’t stand up. The rope is tied around the back of the chair. I glance around the room. It has to be a basement. Low ceilings, cement walls, and it’s musty and dirty. It’s also small. Maybe the size of a small bedroom. There is nothing in the room besides one door, then us in our chairs.

Raven urges me, “Hey, hey. Breathe, Pres. You have to keep breathing. We will be okay. I swear it.”

“How?” I scoff, my chest rapidly rising and falling.

“Just give me a minute. I was waiting for you to wake up before doing this.” She starts wiggling around and raising her butt in the air enough that her fingers can grasp her jeans. She grunts as she bends awkwardly to get her fingers into the back pocket. Once she has what she is looking for, she grins at me. “Blade. That annoying fucker. He gave me a knife a long time ago. He would always randomly check that I had it on me until he annoyed me so much, I started carrying it all the time.”

A small, sad smile plays on my lips before I realize something else. “Can you shoot a gun?”

She furrows her brows. “Yeah, but that doesn’t help us. All I have is the knife. That’s if I can even get it through these fucking ropes.” She grunts as her arms strain to get the right angle.

“I have a gun. I can feel it still. They didn’t check us. It’s in the back of my pants.”

Raven smiles. “Well hot damn, babe, good job.” But then her smile drops. “Wait, why do you have a gun? Do you know how to use it?”

“Um, no. But I thought it might help with intimidation.”

Raven tsks. “You dummy. I fucking love you. Fuck! Yes!” she whisper-shouts as the rope drops to the ground, and she stands with a switchblade in her hand. “Your turn.”

She comes behind me and starts working the knife through the ropes, but before she can get them all the way off, the door flings open and a tall, creepy-looking man with long, greasy black hair stands there.

He glances from Raven’s chair to where she stands behind me. A feral grin spreads over his face. “Oh, what a bad, bad girl.”

Raven steps to my side and raises her hands. No knife in sight. “I–I’m s-sorry,” she stutters.

His grin grows even wider, and he steps into the room, walking closer to Raven. My breathing has turned to pants as I watch with wide eyes, unsure of what to do.

As soon as he gets within reaching distance, Raven pulls the blade from the back of her pants and slices him. He curses but doesn’t seem bothered. He advances again and Raven goes for his face, slicing his cheek and then kneeing him in the balls so he drops to the ground.

Now that he isn’t facing me, I work the rest of the rope off my wrists. She cut it enough that I can squeeze my hands out. The skin is raw and hurts as I pull, but I don’t stop. As soon as my hands are free, I reach for the gun in the back of my pants.

“Stop,” another voice commands. Ben.

He steps in front of the door, a gun in his right hand hanging at his side. He looks bored and unamused as he glances at Raven, trying to take down the big man. When he glances at me, he grins.
