“Raven!” I squeak and cover my chest.

She bursts out laughing, “I’m just fucking with you. I already noticed they are bigger, like, a month ago.”

I feel my face heat and switch the camera around to show her my room. “Look at this! I can’t figure out what to wear, so I just destroyed my room.” I know I am whining, but things are always so perfectly laid out in my life, and this is just so incredibly different for me. Add on pregnancy hormones, and I am losing it.

“It’s okay. If you don’t want them to see your bump yet, go for a flowy top. I like the pants you have on, so pick a few tops and show me.”

I do as she says and show her the three tops I laid out. “Oh! The black one with the red roses on it, for sure. Then wear flats. It’ll be cute but still tame for you.”

I put on the top and find a pair of red pointed flats to go with it. “Alright, I’m done. I just have to put on my jewelry.”

“Ugh, I want to take you out to buy new accessories soon. You need some different shit in your collection.”

I snort. “You’d get me to buy all your crazy-colored large pieces you wear, and I’d never actually wear them.”

“Not true! I can tame myself. Okay, I gotta go, but good luck! You will do fantastic. I expect to be told how today goes or I will hunt you down.”

“Okay, bye!” we say at the same time and hang up.

I finish getting ready and decide to just leave cleaning my room for when I get home tonight. It’s too messy for me to even think about right now. I turn on some music on the old stereo while I cook breakfast and dance around the kitchen. Things are better now than they were before. I need to find a way to calm all my anxious thoughts and habits.

As I am cooking, I hear a soft clicking sound. I stop and look around, but I have no idea what it is. I hear it again a few minutes later, so I turn the radio off and listen, but don’t hear anything. I know I am probably being paranoid, but I can’t help that my heart rate picks up; I grab a knife from the butcher block and wander around the apartment, checking every window and door to make sure they are locked and secure.

After everything checks out, I brush it off as me being paranoid because of the crap with Ben and turn the old radio back on.

Even with all my anxiety this morning, I still manage to be twenty minutes early. I wait in my car until I see a bike driving down the street towards the shop as it passes, I can’t help but look at Axe’s butt. Holy ass, that man has a nice, well, ass. He takes the alleyway next to the shop and I wait until he is walking back around the building before grabbing my bag and slipping out of my car. He waves me over, and I follow him behind the building.

“Morning!” He gives me a warm smile that sends tingles through my body. He is so handsome. “Whenever you open or come in early, you’ll use this entrance and make sure you lock it behind you, just to be safe. We have cameras all around the building, but it’s still best to be extra cautious.”

I nod and as I walk ahead of him through the door, I see his eyes swoop down and slowly work back up my body. Do I put an extra sway in my hips as I walk ahead of him? No… I definitely don’t…

We head upstairs to the large open breakroom. “So, help yourself to anything in here. We try to keep things stocked up. You’ll probably be up here for the first few weeks getting the offices in order, and then we’ll transition you downstairs. But I can handle the desk and customers until you, uh, get a handle on this. I really am sorry it’s this bad. I’m not proud of it, but things get so busy it just piles up, and I didn’t realize how bad our last girl let things get.” He rubs the back of his neck before opening the first office door.

Bad is an understatement. The desk in the middle of the room is piled high with papers. The two chairs on the front side of the desk have more papers and what looks like bike supplies on them. The back wall has bookshelves framing the large window, and they are messy with papers, folders, and files. The floor has boxes stacked along both side walls that are about as high as I am.

Well, this is going to be a time-consuming process.

I feel a huge smile stretch across my face, and when I turn around to look at Axe who is still standing in the doorway looking ashamed, that all fades when he sees the look on my face, and his eyes go wide before he takes a step back.

I am so beyond ready for this.

Chapter Four

Axe (Jackson)

JesusChrist, thistinyass woman looks fucking crazy right now. I take a step back into the hallway, and she laughs. Laughing so hard, she puts her hands on her knees and bends over.

I don’t know if I have ever seen something so goddamn fucking beautiful. She is immaculate.

She snorts before looking back up at me, and her cheeks turn pink. “I’m so sorry. It’s just your face. You looked so shocked by my excitement.”

I still don’t speak. I think I lost the ability as I stand here still just staring at her. I think I could stare at her forever. It’s like when we were in the diner, our eyes locked together, and it almost feels like someone has me in a choke hold. No, not someone. Presley.

She blinks and then looks away, clearing her throat. I realize I still haven’t spoken and force myself to pull it together quickly. “It’s okay, I just have never seen someone so happy over a mess before.” I chuckle.

She smiles at me. “Sorry, I just like a project.”

“Right. Well, my biggest problem is keeping our returning customers’ files together. They all had their own files, but I don’t know what happened to them. And we need a better system for when we buy parts and whatnot.” I rub the back of my neck. “I’m not entirely sure how to go about everything.”
