I smirk at her. “Later, sweetheart. I have church when we get back to the club. It might last a few hours tonight.”

“Okay,” she says breathlessly.

She turns back around and sits next to me, my arm around her shoulder and her head resting on mine. We talk and stare out at the view for the next hour, enjoying each other’s company before it’s time to head back.

When we get back to the club, we sit in the main room with some of the other guys, and Carly comes over to visit with Presley.

I sit back with my arm around Presley’s shoulders and watch how she interacts with Carly and the guys as they all trade stories and laugh. Presley is quiet but she laughs and interacts with them when they direct something at her. They all love her and try to include her. She fits here. She fits with me.

I get pulled from my thoughts as my phone starts buzzing in my pocket. I pull it out just as Presley glances at me. “It’s my mom. I’m going to head outside for a minute to talk to her.” I kiss Presley’s forehead as she says okay, and I head out back to sit on the porch while answering her call.

“My boy! It’s about damn time you answered! What have you been doing?”

Shit. She called me about two days after Presley’s attack, but I was so consumed with everything going on, I never called her back. I don’t even know how to explain all this shit to her. She is going to beat my ass for not telling her from the start.

“Hey, Mama. Sorry I haven’t called back. Things have been intense around here lately.”

She tuts. “Intense how? Tell me what’s going on.”

I take a breath and spill everything to her. If one good thing came from my sister dying and then my dad dying, it’s my mom and I’s relationship. We have grown impossibly closer over the years, and I tell her pretty much everything. She has always been accepting of anything I have wanted to do, but she became even more accepting after Jana. When she is around, she is involved with the club. She has mothered the younger boys and taken to all my brothers as if they are her own kids.

“You love her,” she says simply after I finish filling her in on everything since the day I met Presley.

“You say that like it’s so easy. I love her more than life itself but ma, isn’t that insane? It’s so soon.”

She scoffs, “Insane my ass. I had your father on his knees the day I met him. He was done for. Based on the way you just told me everything, the anger in your voice, the way you want revenge on her behalf, letting her into your space, staying with her at her apartment when she was having anxiety, you love her and there isn’t a damn thing wrong with that.”

“You’re right.” I sigh.

“Of course I am,” she huffs. “I am coming home. I don’t know when I can get back there, but I think I need to come home for a while and make sure you don’t fuck this up for yourself.”

“I would love for you to come home. I miss you a lot, so do the guys, but you don’t need to come home just for this. I’m not going to screw it up.”

“Have Nerds book me a flight back. Three days from now. I need to get a few things in order first.” Of course, she just completely ignores me, as if I didn’t even say anything. Stubborn woman.

We talk for a few more minutes about all the friends she has made in Montana and the places she has gotten to visit before we end the call with her forcing me to promise to have Nerds book a flight home for her.

I head back inside as I shoot Nerds a text about my mom’s flight. I take a seat next to Presley again and listen as she and Carly talk about Dirty Sinner, the nightclub the club owns.

Presley notices me and nudges me with her arm. “Everything okay?” she whispers but most everyone glances in our direction anyway being nosey. I roll my eyes.

“Yeah, everything is good. My mom is coming home. She has been in Montana for almost six months now and has decided now is the time to come back. She wants to meet you.”

I watch as her brows furrow and she looks deep in thought for a second before it really clicks. “Um, what? You—your mom? She wants to meet me?” she squeeks out with wide eyes.

Blade cackles loudly. “Oh man. You sound so scared, like she is a wicked witch who might swallow you whole.”

“Uh, yeah. Am I not supposed to be scared?” Presley asks while pinching her palm.

I sigh and grab her hand. “No, angel. Don’t be worried. I just wanted to let you know so you aren’t blindsided when she gets here. She will love you. My mom is very good at reading people. She might be wary of you because of what I told you about my ex, but she won’t treat you poorly because of that.”

She nods and slowly starts to relax. “When does she come?”

Nerds, who just came walking out of the hallway from his office, answers, “Two days. Her flight is early in the morning. She should be here about 7 a.m. I am booking it now.”

“Two days?” Presley groans and drops her head on my shoulder. I chuckle and squeeze her thigh.

“It’ll be fine, angel.”
