”Ellie,” I smile, feeling my pulse sharpen like a sword in my veins. ”We meet again. In my own building nonetheless.” My smile widens and I raise a brow. ”Are you here to see someone?”

Her eyes dart, her full cheeks blossoming with red. ”You,” she replies and licks her lips. They’re a little bit cracked as if she has forgotten to hydrate. ”I’m here to see you.”

Frowning, I muse, ”Regarding what?”

Pleadingly she replies, ”You said something about having a ton of good pillows?” The color on her face deepens. ”You said I could come by to pick and choose?”

”Didn’t actually think you’d take me up on the offer,” I laugh. I flare out with my hands. ”But I’m pleasantly surprised.” I open up the door. ”After you, m’lady.”

She enters, shivering when she crosses the threshold and I find that a bit strange. And she doesn’t look around at the interior but keeps her gaze fixed on me, her eyes shocked and horrified.

I’ve seen that look on people before. In court when the trialed is about to take one last, desperate measure and do something bad.

I wait for her to drop her purse on the floor, but she tightly holds it and keeps staring at me with that scared to death look. I take off my coat then put my hands into my pockets, attempting to make her relax.

”Did you walk all the way here?” I ask because I see a little perspiration glittering on her upper lip.

”Flew…,” she murmurs absently then twitches. ”Took the subway, I mean.” Her fingers flex and she rocks back on her heels before dragging a trembling hand through her tresses. ”Did you just get off work?”

My eyes narrow in amusement. ”Yeah, but I’m thinking about going to the gym later. Once we’re done here.”

Ella-Ashley just nods.

”I had a lot of fun on the ice yesterday,” I smirk and cross my arms over my chest. ”Hope I didn’t pressure you too much? Since you’re a rookie and all…”

She doesn’t respond, it seems that she has a tongue tie now. ”Right a r…rookie…,” she stammers.

I nod, then start prowling through the apartment checking all locks before glancing out the window.

Ella-Ashley clears her throat behind me. ”What are you looking for?”

”It’s just a precaution,” I murmur before turning around, facing her. ”I had a feeling on my way home I was being followed.”

Her jaw slacks and her complexion fades into the color of chalk.

”Don’t worry, it’s nothing to be scared of. It was just a feeling. But I should walk you home later, to make sure you get there safely.”

I watch her throat bulge when she swallows. ”That’s so nice of you.”

Nodding, I walk closer. ”But I probably have nothing to worry about when you look like a little ninja in those clothes,” I playfully tease. I stare down at her. ”Like a littlespy.”

She lets out a gasp, abruptly turning around but I take a step closer, putting my chest against her back and sneak an arm around her waist. Ella-Ashley stops breathing and I nuzzle her hair, my nose tip touching her scalp and I inhale.

”Just to clarify to make sure we’re on the same page,” I rasp and lift up her sweater to touch the naked skin of her lower belly, ”you don’t really think I invited you to my home for the pillows?”

She shakes her head no.

”You like the kiss I gave you yesterday?”

She nods, and I want to groan.

”And now you’ve come for more?”

A choked sound escapes her, but I think it’s a yes.

”Good,” I smile. ”Do you want to see my bedroom now?”

Ella-Ashley tilts her face, glancing at me and she nods. I lightly link our fingers, leading her down the hall.
