“Yeah, he talks a big game, but my brother’s a big ol’ softie,” Avery comments, sliding her aviator sunglasses on. “At least when it comes to Sloane. Or actually, onlywhen it comes to Sloane.”

“He’s sweet with you, too,” Sloane says, elbowing Avery playfully.

“I just think it’s super romantic that you two found your way back to one another after all that time,” Andie remarks with a wistful smile. “You’re each other’s first and last. That’s so beautiful.”

“Speaking of hopeless romantics,” I snort, tossing her a wink.

“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with believing in true love!” Andie fires back.

Sloane sits up, craning her neck to look past me to Andie. “Your epic love story is coming, Andie Raines. I can feel it.”

Andie’s brows shoot up. “Is that a premonition, or…”

Sloane giggles, shrugging her shoulders. “Maybe.”

“Okay, comeon,” Andie whines, curling up to sit and combing her fingers through her wavy red hair. “You can’t just say something like that and not give me details! That’s just cruel!”

“You’d better tell her you’re teasing, or she won’t leave you alone,” I mutter, side-eyeing Sloane.

“Maybe I am, maybe I’m not,” Sloane sing-songs, playing it coy. “You don’t even wanna know what I’ve seen aboutyourlove life, Lo.”

She waggles her brows, obviously joking, but my stomach still does a flip nonetheless, my mouth going dry.

Sloane’s abilities as a seer have been manifesting more and more lately, especially since she sealed the mate bond with Madd. If there’s anyone who could bring my house of cards crumbling down in an instant, it’s her.

“Yeah, what love life?” I say sarcastically, my voice strained.

Sloane’s dark-eyed gaze meets mine. I have no idea if I’m reading into things or if there’s really something there, but when I can’t quite read her expression, my imagination runs away with me and I start panicking internally.

Am I about to be outed?

Would that be such a bad thing?

“Well unfortunately, I’ve got some bad news for you single ladies,” Avery sighs, laying back on her towel and tossing an arm over her head. “The most eligible new bachelor in town is apparently taken.”

Andie wrinkles her nose in confusion. “Who, Javi?”

“That’s the one,” Avery clucks. “He told Madd he’s got a girl. Though from the way he was dancing the other night, I’m not sure if I buy it.”

“There’s nothing wrong with dancing,” I say defensively, my hackles raising as my wolf comes out to play. “And from what I remember, you were the one all up on him, not the other way around.”

“Mhmm, and what about you, Lo?” she replies with a smirk. “Before I came over, the two of you looked pretty damn cozy.”

My wolf claws at the inside of my chest, demanding retribution, but I shove her back, pushing up to my feet agitatedly. “You know what? I think I’m gonna jump in after all,” I say, brushing the sand off my thighs.

“What?!” Andie gasps.

“Oh my gosh, really?!” Avery exclaims.

“Are you sure?” Sloane asks.

I nod, staring out at the rocky ledge that Avery just jumped from, sizing it up in my mind. “Yeah.” I glance back at Andie. “You said I could use some excitement in my life, right?”

“Oh hell yeah,” Avery laughs, getting to her feet and tossing her sunglasses down onto her towel. “Let’s do this.” She steps over to me, grabbing my hand and tugging me toward the water like she’s afraid if we don’t go right now, I’ll change my mind.

She’s probably right.

I definitely haven’t thought this through, and as I allow her to drag me into the swimming hole, the chilly water splashing my calves, I almost chicken out. But then I think about how I’ve jumped into this thing with Javi headfirst, and if I can let go enough to do that, then why can’t I do this, too?
