"Well, I'm not most of the women who frequent your upscale, voracious circle."
"Ouch," Brady laughs.
"I am not looking forward to this," I groan as I leave his office.
"You'll have fun!" Brady calls after me.
I do not have fun. Geneva is a middle-aged lady with white-blond hair who spends the hour-long consultation telling me I have terrible posture and I need a haircut.
I ignore the jabs and select three outfits. A black pantsuit with a plum-colored blouse, a grey pencil skirt, and a white long-sleeve button-up similar to the outfit Angie wore the first time we met. And a red form-fitting dress that hits me mid-thigh.
"You need shoes," Geneva flatly states. "Something to elongate your calves."
"Do my calves need to be elongated?" I gasp as I stare at my legs in the mirror.
Genevatsksme. "In all the years I've worked for Brady Cohen, not once has he called me and begged me to dress hisassistant."
"Oh," I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. "He's just helping me out until I get my first paycheck."
She smirks as she hands me a box and I hug it to my chest. "In this business, not a single CEO cares what his assistant wears. Trust me, you'll need these."
"T-thank you," I stutter.
Geneva tugs a blue bag out of her oversized purse. "He also asked me to give you this."
My mouth goes dry when I see the name. Tiffany & Co.
There's no way in hell I can pay him back for jewelry.
"I can't accept this," I tell her.
She sets it on the large conference table and grabs her things. "I'll just leave it here then."
I take a seat in front of the bag with the box still in my arms. I don't know which to open first.
The blue bag scares me so I start with the shoes. Black, sleek, the ones with the red soles. I set them on the table and reach for the bag.
Inside is a pair of white gold diamond earrings.
I toss them back in the bag and close my eyes.
In this business, not a single CEO cares what his assistant wears.
Is Brady trying to woo me?
No.
We have ground rules.
I have grown up a lot since I broke both our hearts.
What is he doing?
He must know I can't accept any of this. Especially now that there are diamonds involved.
I lay my head on the cool table.
I'm in trouble.
