"Well," Charlie exhales and steps out of my way. "I'll leave a business card on your desk. If things don't work out at Cohen Tech, give me a call."

I force a smile before pushing open the bathroom door and escaping.

Thankfully, Charlie and her team hit the slopes after our run-in, giving me room to breathe. Angie and Brady are still in his office when I take a seat at my desk and start looking through Brady's calendar. He has a Zoom meeting in three hours and dinner with Charlie at six tonight. I have to call and make reservations, and then pick up Brady's suit at the dry cleaners.

The phone rings and I immediately pick it up. "Cohen Tech, this is Izzy."

"Iz?" I hear Steve's voice.

I nearly fall out of my seat. "Steve?"

"I knew it!" he proudly proclaims in my ear. "I knew I'd figure it out."

"Figure what out?" I whisper into the phone, praying Brady doesn't catch me taking apersonalcall on his line.

"That you were working for Cohen Tech," Steve laughs. "It's the only tech company based on the mountain. It wasn't hard to track you down."

"What are you doing?" I half-heartedly ask. "Whyare you doing this?"

"What do you mean?" Steve coughs.

"I mean, why are you trying so hard to push your way into my life?"

"I miss you guys," he sighs. "My family moved to another state and left me behind. I'm a thousand miles away from my daughter. I feel left out."

I close my eyes and ball my hand into a fist on my desk. "I can't do this here. I'm working and you're crossing so many lines, Steve. I know you're lonely but get a job. Or join a band. Make friends. You had your chance, and you never showed up for me."

"I'm trying to now," he argues. "Did you get it yet?"

"Get what yet?" I groan.

As if on cue, the elevator doors open and a woman wearing a Cupid's costume and carrying a bouquet of red roses appears.

"I have to go," I say before hanging up.

The woman stops in front of my desk. "Izzy?"

I stand. "That's me."

"These are for you," she presents me with the flowers. "And now, for the best part."

My mouth drops open in horror. "What part?"

The woman dramatically throws her arms out. "The singing telegram part."

Brady's office door opens and Angie wanders out as the woman begins serenading me with a pop love song.

Angie stops beside me and claps. "Is this for you?"

"Unfortunately," I grumble.

"This is so great," Angie laughs and pulls out her cell phone to record the show.

When Cupid is done embarrassing me with a terrible rendition of a song I barely know, she bows low and professes, "Sometimes life feels like a quiz, but there's nothing I wouldn't do for you, my Iz. Yours truly, Steve."

I sit down, mortified, as Angie keels over, clutching her stomach from laughter.

Seriously, could this day get any worse?
