“Well, you better start believing it, because I am here, and all I want to do right now is strip you out of these clothes and make love to you several times over the next few hours,” he retorted.

That sounded marvelous.

Or, it did until I suddenly remembered something. Smacking my hand on my forehead, I squeezed my eyes shut and said, “I have to call Bridget. I kind of made plans with her tonight to go out and celebrate it being less than a month until I’d be able to see you again.”

Shaking his head, Griffin said, “You don’t need to call her.”

“I do. It’ll be rude to just blow her off,” I explained. “But I’m sure she’ll be more than understanding why I’m no longer interested in going out to celebrate tonight.”

“You’re not understanding me, Indy. I’m telling you that you don’t need to call her, because she already knows I’m here,” Griffin shared.

My body froze. “She does?”

“How do you think I managed to get into your place this afternoon? I called the hotel the one day I knew you weren’t going to be there, and I spoke to her about my plan. Since I knew that the two of you sometimes got together right after work on a Friday, I didn’t want to risk you not coming back to your place. Initially, I had planned to just show up and deliver the flowers, but Bridget came up with the idea for me to be waiting inside for you when you got back.”

I stared at him, feeling completely dumbfounded. The whole time Bridget and I had been talking about it today, she never gave me any indication that anything was happening. She’d gone above and beyond to help Griffin orchestrate this wonderful surprise for me. I was so glad I’d allowed myself to forge a friendship with her, because it turned out she knew how to be a great one.

“It seems like I’m going to have to get her a really nice Christmas gift this year.”

Griffin nodded. “That’s probably not a bad idea.”

For the next several moments, the two of us continued to stay like that, our bodies pressed close while we stared at one another. Truthfully, I could have stayed like that with Griffin for hours. And he seemed rather content as well.

But Griffin wasn’t a guy who liked to just stand around doing nothing. And while I didn’t think he hated what was happening then, he certainly had ideas for other things he’d rather be doing with me.

“Are you okay now?” he asked.

“What do you mean?”

“Before I get you out of these clothes, I want to make sure you know I’m not some figment of your imagination. I don’t want to try to make love to you, only to have your mind be caught up in something it doesn’t need to be.”

I squeezed the back of his neck. “I know you’re here, and while I think it’s going to take a minute for it to really sink in, I’m going to be okay.”

He grinned at me. “Damn right, you are. Especially considering what I’ve got planned for us this weekend. First up, you and me having a little reunion.”

Before he gave me a chance to respond or react, Griffin took a half of a step back, bent slightly, and pushed his shoulder into my belly. Then he stood, lifting me as he went, and giving me the perfect view of his backside.

Though I let out a yelp of surprise, I didn’t hold myself back from using both hands to squeeze his ass.

And for the next hour, instead of needing to figure out what I wanted to do to celebrate being less than a month away from seeing Griffin again, I wound up celebrating the arrival of the man himself.

It was a glorious reunion, one that we continued after we stopped briefly for some food.

That night, hours after he’d surprised me, I fell asleep wrapped up in Griffin’s arms and feeling confident about what the future had in store for us.

For the first time in a very long time, I found myself dreaming again about brighter days. But even if a storm came along, I knew I’d be alright as long as I had him by my side.

EPILOGUE

Griffin

“Where are you taking me?”

When I glanced across the center console and away from the road for a brief moment, I noted the excitement written all over Indy’s face. I told her I had a surprise for her today, and it was clear she couldn’t wait to see what it was.

I was just as eager to tell her.

Unfortunately, I refused to ruin the surprise, so she was going to have to wait.
