She opened her eyes and brushed her fingers over his face. “So ready.”

He slipped into her in one smooth thrust and she arched off the bed to bring him fully in. His growl sent tingles over her skin and she gasped as her body adjusted to accommodate him.

When he began to move, her body reacted exactly as nature intended. It wasn’t long before her body was impossibly spiraling again. “Joe.”

“I’ve got you, Lia. Let go. I’ve got you.”

Joe barely managed to keep his weight on his elbows so he wouldn’t crush Lia. After sucking in a dozen deep breaths, he leaned down to kiss her. “I think you broke me.”

The laugh he loved burst out of her. “I hope not. I’d like to do that all over again.”

He chuckled and had to kiss her again. Then he rolled over and got out of the bed to deal with the condom. When he returned, he slipped under the covers with her and pulled her into his arms. She came easily and rested her head on his chest.

He couldn’t stop touching her, one hand rubbing circles on her shoulder, the other doing the same on her hip. “That was amazing.”

She snuggled in and kissed his chest. “It was. You are.”

He chuckled. “Team effort.”

“If the ability to move ever returns to my limbs, I’ll be a more active participant next time.”

The smile in her voice had him smiling back. “Any more active and we might not survive.”

“Hell of a way to go.”

“Damn right.”

For a few minutes, they held each other without conversation, simply enjoying the peace. Then Joe remembered what she’d said downstairs. “When I asked you to come up here to talk, I didn’t intend this to happen. I’m damn glad it did, but that wasn’t my intention.”

He felt her smile against his skin, but he had to ask. “Back to the conversation. Are you really considering leaving?”

Lia shifted until she was on top of him with her hands stacked on his chest and her chin resting on them. “Do you think it would keep you safe?”

He moved his hands to rest on her hips and the curve of her ass. Distracting as hell, but this was too important for him to lose focus. “We don’t even know what this is, but you leaving would only have me following.”

Her eyes were glossy, but she smiled. “I’m serious.”

He squeezed her ass gently. “So am I. I know we haven’t been together very long, Lia, but I want to explore what’s between us. I don’t want to lose you before we have a chance to see where this might go.” He wanted to tell her he was pretty sure he was falling in love with her, but it was way too early to be talking like that. She’d probably run back to Atlanta.

Her smile lit up the room and his heart. “I want to see where this goes as well.”

“Good. I’m thinking about sticking around permanently.”

“Leaving the FBI? To work with your friends and your family?”

He nodded. “And to be with you. I’ve been considering the move for a while now.”

“You’d be happy here?”

“I would.” He brushed his fingers over her cheeks. “Your turn. Do you think you could be happy here?”

Her face lit up. “I had an idea today. Before everything went weird.”

The smile disappeared and he brushed her lips. “Don’t think about the weird stuff right now. Tell me the idea.”

“Owen gave me the idea.”

“Owen? The yoga kid?”
