All that noise came to an abrupt stop when I stepped on stage. No, that couldn’t be right. Their mouths hung open, staring at me.

“Is that Bigfoot?” someone asked. I could hear them.

“Nah, it’s someone in a costume,” another person called out. “Take it off, buddy. We want to see what you’re hiding under there.”

“You know what they say about big feet.” That got a roar of laughter out of the crowd.

I couldn’t let it bother me. I had much bigger problems on my plate.

“I assure you, anyone we bring to the stage is completely genuine and is ready to give their whole heart to Hannah if she picks them.” Didn’t need to see Bibi to know she was bristling. The sparkly shifter believed in me. “Speaking of which, Hannah, are you ready to interview these handsome beasts?”

“So ready.” I’d pictured this moment so many times I could consider it hashtag manifested.

But in my dreams, it was never quite like this.

My words echoed over the silence of the crowd, and the only ones who dared to say anything were heckling Lars.

Seriously, how dare they?

It took everything I had to not tell those people to fuck completely off. Even more than that not to run over to the other side of the stage to see him. According to Bibi, he was still furry and amazing and I wanted to know what it felt like when he wrapped those big, strong arms around me in the heat of the summer sun.

The longer it took to get this episode underway, the more our night together felt like a dream. Something far-fetched I couldn’t have. But then I reminded myself I was moments away from calling him over to me and experiencing that hug that I was dreaming about. Then it was just three cute dates standing between us and forever.

“I can hardly wait to hear what you’ll ask, and you have the attention of everyone in this amphitheater.” Way for Bibi to deflect that the crowd was actually stunned about my presence. The fangirl in me wondered how they would edit this, if they’d leave the reaction to Lars or make it look like business as usual.

With Zoe and the girls here, the truth would get out no matter what.

Bibi nodded, and I raised my trembling hands from my lap.

“Question one.” Sweet moon, this was surreal. “You’ll learn really fast I don’t like to be bored. What’s your idea of an exciting date?”

“Shifter Number One?” Bibi asked.

“I would take you deep in the mountains and show you the secrets of this land.” Shifter Number One had a deep, sexy voice that didn’t sound how I remembered Lars talking. But it was a Lars-ish answer.

“Shifter Number Two?” Bibi kept things moving.

“I’d fly you to a new city, and then play a song I wrote just for you,” he offered. “We won’t need a plane.”

Definitely not Lars.

“Oh, very intriguing. I can only guess that might say something about what animal you shift into,” Bibi said. “Shifter Number Three?”

“We’d watch the sunset between the mountain peaks, and then I’d bring you deep inside the mountain and light candles around the hot spring in my home, which we’d enjoy together.”

That didn’t exactly sound like Lars either. The microphone caused an echo, or they’d distorted the voices on purpose. But Lars had a hot spring in his mountain that we’d just been about to enjoy when Bibi and Hugo rescued me.

“All of those sound amazing,” I said with a sigh. “Next question. Let’s fast forward to the fifth anniversary of our mate moon. What do you think our lives will be like?”

“What a great question,” Bibi cooed. “Why don’t we start with Shifter Number Three this time?”

There was a pause and some rumbling. My kingdom to see what was happening on the other side of the stage.

“I look forward to getting to know every single thing about you. Your hopes and your dreams. I want them all to come true, no matter what they are. Life with me might not have the hustle and bustle that you’re used to, but I promise you’ll always have something new to discover.”
