“Sorry. Didn’t mean to ghost, but we have smokin’ hot wolves keeping us very busy.” Zoe stretched on her lounge chair and gave me a shit-eating grin. Right, the steady diet of wolf dick. She was wearing a red string bikini, and I could practically smell the wolf seeping out of her pores.

To be honest, it was all I could do not to choke on it. Armand and his wolves were dangerous, but by all reports, they’d treated my friends like gold. So I didn’t have any proof that they wanted to hurt them, but my spidey senses were tingling.

It was a gorgeous summer day, and the show had rented the pool area at the chalet for us to have a private girls’ day. Sort of private. Bjorn, Marissa, and Tina were here filming. It seemed excessive, but between starring in a TV show and the squatch hunter shenanigans, those security guards standing at the gate were a necessity.

I’d been a little worried about going on camera in my pin-up-style, leopard-print bathing suit, but somehow, this thing made me look like I’d just stepped off a fifty-year-old calendar still hanging in a hot rod garage.

“To think how jealous I was of you being on the show, but all I needed to do was come to Sunset Springs to snag my very own shifter,” Destiny added, taking a sip of her mimosa. “Wolves know exactly what they want, and they make sure they get it. Over and over again. I can’t imagine having to wait around to do everything on a production schedule. Have you even gone on a date with Lars yet?”

“Our first date is tonight.”

“What are you gonna do?” Destiny asked.

“I’m bringing him to a concert.” Bibi had managed to convince Wolfsbane to play atThe Mating Gameamphitheater. After all my years in the industry, I couldn’t pull those strings, but my fairy dragmother only had to send a text to make it happen. They were my favorite band, and I couldn’t wait to introduce Lars to all their greatest hits.

“You’re nervous,” Zoe said. The waiter brought us our brunch. She’d ordered fruit salad. Destiny got the gluten-free blueberry pancakes that were giving me some envy, but I would most likely be more than happy to eat my feelings with my egg, cheese, and avocado on an onion bagel.

My feelings liked carbs. A lot.

“I don’t know how he’s gonna react to loud guitars and mosh pits, but if he wants to get to know me, I can’t think of a better way.” I laughed.

There were a thousand reasons tonight gave me anxiety. My besties were acting weird, and I was pretty sure it wasn’t only because they’d OD’d on wolf dick. The vibe was just off today. And then there were squatch hunters. Was this plan even safe? We’d have plenty of security with us, and Bibi, who could throw down in a shifter fight, but I hoped it never came to that.

What was really bothering me was how distant Lars had been since Leif had arrived. We could only send messages via the production crew, like we were pen pals, which at first was fun—sending him cute, sexy messages. The messages I got in response were short and straight to the point. Everything would be better once I saw him face-to-face, or at least, that’s what I kept telling myself.

“Don’t you want to be alone with him?” Destiny asked.

“You need to bring him to your suite and fuck his brains out and then post a play-by-play in the forums, detailing how he’s the same…or different as human than he was a beast.” Zoe punctuated her statement by pulling the drunken cherries off her drink skewer and popping them into her mouth.

“Everyone’s dying to know what’s going on,” Destiny added.

“Everyone who?”

“In the forums,” she said.

Okay, so they’d been watching the forums but they hadn’t been talking to me. Not cool, ladies, not cool at all.

“If it isn’t the most gorgeous group of women I’ve ever seen.” Bibi looked like she’d just stepped away from a tropical-themed photo shoot, in her purple metallic one piece, a gauzy black sarong patterned with tropical flowers, a wide brimmed hat that would have looked ridiculous on anyone else, and impossibly high heels. Her timing could not have been more impeccable because I had been on the verge of picking a fight. “I think we’ve all earned a fun in the sun day, don’t you?”

“You look incredible, Bibi.” Zoe gave Bibi her most camera-worthy smile. “What do you have in store for us?”

“Sun and mimosas, but Hannah needs to get ready for her date.” She took the lounge chair beside me and took off her sunglasses. “Although, I might have a teensy bit of news.”

“What?” Both girls were up in their seats.

“Are you adding more contestants?” Zoe asked.

“We will have more, but the two of you have already found handsome wolves. Speaking of which, Armand has requested another date with you, Hannah.”

“No.” I didn’t even have to think about it.

“That’s what I thought your answer would be, but before I send him packing, I wanted to give you the opportunity to prove me wrong.”

“Maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to say no.” Zoe gave me a wobbly smile, probably because she knew I was about to shoot her down too. “I know, you’re all in for Lars. But we’ve had a chance to get to know Armand, and he’s a pretty cool guy.”

I crossed my arms and leaned back in my seat. The bagel sandwich felt like a rock in my belly. And I was still pissed about the online snub. “Define cool.”

“He’s very generous and makes sure his pack is well taken care of,” she said.
