“That includes us,” Destiny added, beaming. “Whatever we want—clothes, dinners, cute dates—we name it, Armand makes it happen. I wonder if he could get us tickets to the show tonight. I love Wolfsbane.”

“Sounds like a certain someone I know.” I turned to Bibi and waggled my eyebrows, but mouthed ‘help’.

“Yes, it does, but I’m not sure Armand would want to be known as a fairy dragmother. Or if he’s willing to sparkle as much as the job requires.” Bibi winked at me. “Fashion choices aside, it does sound fabulous. And expensive. Do you have any idea how the pack is funding these fabulous gifts and adventures?”

Zoe and Destiny looked at each other, then shook their heads.

“Do any of them have a job?” I asked.

“You know rich people don’t actually work.” Zoe laughed.

“But they’ve got to come by that money somehow.” Bibi tapped a purple fingernail against her chin. “Have any other shifters come to visit?”

“Why do you want know, Bibi?” Zoe leaned forward and lowered her glasses. “I thought you were the most well-connected shifter in town.”

“Zoe,” Destiny mumbled.

“I am. I’ll be honest with you, I know very little about these wolves, so color me curious.” She rose from the lounge chair in a graceful, fluid motion. “It was wonderful spending time with you ladies, but the glam squad will be ready for Hannah soon. We can’t wait to share all the juicy details of the night with you.”

She blew the ladies air kisses and motioned for me to follow her.

“Consider Armand’s offer,” Zoe said. “Maybe you really did choose him for a reason.”

My head was spinning by the time we got back to the van. “Something’s off with Zoe and Destiny. I’m wondering if maybe we shouldn’t have told them.”

“About Armand’s request or our plans for tonight?”

“Both.” I replayed the morning in my mind. “I think they’ve been avoiding me.”

It hurt to admit, but I couldn’t pretend everything was fine, either.

“I’m sorry to hear that. I wonder if they’ve been told by their new wolf friends to keep their distance.” Bibi raised a brow. “You don’t think I have a plan?”

“Of course I do. I’m just not sure what it is.”

She chuckled. “The truth is, there’s very little information available on these wolves. There’s the stuff we’ve found in the ancient texts and then, almost nothing until they showed up again, right before the episode started. We’re getting the rental records on their house. We’ve got some surveillance set up so we can see who’s coming and going.”

“Do you think they’ll hurt my friends?” They were happy, but I had a bad feeling it wouldn’t last.

Bibi sighed. “They haven’t given us any reason to think so yet. But I’m wondering if there’s something bigger at play.”

Oh. “Like, they know where Calista is?”

She nodded. “Or at least who’s behind the notes I keep receiving.”

Armand’s offer for a second date was a big fat no. It became more solid in my mind as I got ready for my date with Lars, like the rock that had held those wolves frozen for centuries.

Not only was the macho act over the top—I had no idea if Zoe and Destiny were dealing with that with their wolves, and if they liked it—but Armand would never go for the date I had planned tonight.

And he wasn’t Lars.

I could hardly contain my excitement about tonight. Not only were we going to see Wolfsbane, but I was finally getting a chance to spend time with Lars. My first instinct was to reach for my phone and record a video to tell everyone in the forums, but for once, I wanted to savor this moment. Keep it between us, even if the whole world would know every detail eventually.

And I was still smarting about realizing that the girls had been in the forums, but not talking to me.

After coming out of the hair and makeup trailer, I always felt like I could take on the world. My outfit had been laid out for me. It was a super cute, off-the-shoulder Wolfsbane T-shirt, ripped denim shorts with fishnets underneath, over the knee socks, and combat boots.
