“What do you like best about him in his natural form?” A deep, rumbly voice surprised me, coming from the shadows behind the crew. The camera caught my face lighting up, and if anyone on the other side of the live stream wondered who was joining us, they’d have no more questions when Lars came over and took my face in his giant hands. “I know what I like best about you.”

“Tell me.”

“I can’t pick one thing. These big blue eyes, and the way that you paint your face for special occasions. But I like it just as much when you keep it bare. I love the curve of your lips and how pink they are. Your skin is so soft, and I love the way you’ve expressed your personality with your tattoos.”

“I love it when you call me colorful.”

“I can’t get enough of them.” He rumbled in approval, the deep tone sending a wave of vibration through my skin that made the muscles between my legs go berserk. “It’s been too long since I’ve seen all of them, Hannah. I want to trace my fingers over every single story written on your body.”

“You know we’re live, right?” I could barely manage a whisper.

He nodded, his dark eyes ablaze with the promise of more sexy thoughts. “Bibi thought I should come say hi to the viewers, answer a couple of questions, but I can’t take my eyes off you.”

“They do have questions,” she said from the other side of the monitor. She might as well have been in another universe because I wanted nothing more than to be alone with Lars. “They want to know how you feel about going on a date for the first time in your natural form, and how things are different for you.”

His body tensed. There was no way the camera could’ve missed it. “I’ve spent most of my life avoiding humans, so it will be…different, but I want to experience all of Hannah’s favorite things, so I know exactly what she likes for when it’s just her and me. Of course, she hasn’t told me what we’re doing tonight yet…”

“I could unveil the surprise.”

“Somehow they already know on the forums,” Marissa groaned.

I gasped at the screen. “How do you know things before I tell anyone? Well, let’s see if you’re right. Where do you think we’re going tonight? And I reserve the right to change plans if you come up with something better than I did.”

“Don’t you dare.” Bibi laughed.

There was no way they were coming up with something better, but I wanted them to feel like they were a part of this, even if they were a thousand miles away on their couch. Because that’s what I wanted before I came here.

I thought about Zoe and Destiny. The chat was going way too fast to see if they were here, but I had a feeling they weren’t. And that hurt. But maybe this always meant more to me. Maybe because this was meantforme.

“These are some great ideas, but you’re all way off.” I snuck a peek at Bibi, to make sure she approved the big reveal. “Tonight I’m taking Lars roller skating.”

He furrowed his brow, the lines deep in his leathery skin. “What’s that?”

“There’s a rink on the edge of town. We rented it out for the night and hired a DJ. I haven’t skated since my derby days. But it’s so much fun.”

“I still have no idea what you’re talking about,” he said.

I took his big hand in mine. “You’ll just have to experience it for yourself. Can’t guarantee I won’t fall on my ass.”

“We’re strapping wheels to your feet, Lars. You’ll love it,” Bibi said as she rose from her seat. “Let’s go.”

I waved at the camera. “See you all on stage.”

“Are you serious?” a stunned Lars asked as we headed to the van. “Wheels on my feet?”

“Yes. Don’t tell me after all the obstacles we’ve faced on this episode, this is the one that scares you.”

“It doesn’t scare me.” The rumble moved through his body. “It’s just…how do you control it?”

“That’s the fun part. Once you learn to control the skates, you realize you can do anything. I can teach you.”

“I didn’t realize you did derby,” Bibi said. “That’s very badass.”

“Thanks. I was a jammer, since I’m short and tenacious. But I couldn’t make it work for long with my touring schedule. So I had to choose one or the other, and I took the money.”

“Did it make you happy?” Lars asked.

“Skating? Yeah. My derby girls were like family. It’s a feeling I’ve been trying to replicate…well, until I came here.”
