We make plans to hang out tonight, but first, I have both Megan and Heather coming over.

“Hey, girl,” Heather says as I open the door.

I give both her and Megan a hug and have them come in, where they see my dad, who’s in the living room.

“Hi, Coach Z,” they both say.

“Hello, girls,” he responds.

I rush them back to my room since I have so much to fill them in on. Once we’re there, I turn on the music to drown out what I’m about to say so there’s no way my dad could hear.

“So …” I say with a cheesy grin as I lean against my door.

“Oh.” Heather rubs her hands together. “Did something happen that we don’t know about?”

I nod dramatically as Megan jumps on the bed, getting cozy to listen to my story. “Tell us! Tell us!”

“You both saw Aaron cause a scene last night, right?” I say, raising my eyebrows.

“Um, duh. Who didn’t see that?” Megan says. “Did it finally get Beau to stake his claim?”

I rub my lips together, looking off to the side. “Someone staked their claim, but it wasn’t Beau.”

Heather narrows her eyes. “Who then?”

I look out the window toward Aaron’s house, and Heather sits up straighter. “Shut. Up.”

I nod as a huge smile grows on my face.

“What happened?” Heather asks, jumping to her feet like a five-year-old begging for a piece of candy.

“He came over last night.” I look toward my bed, then back to them.

“You didn’t!” Megan shouts, slapping the mattress she’s sitting on.

“Oh my God. You and Aaron? Are you serious?” Heather asks in shock.

“Well … I didn’t tell you guys that he kissed me last year at Gabe’s party …” I cover my mouth, hoping they don’t hate me for keeping it a secret from them.

Heather drops her head back in frustration. “So, that’s why you guys were at each other’s throat! Why didn’t you tell us?”

I nod. “I didn’t know what to think about it, and then he said it was a mistake, so I was kind of embarrassed to tell anyone.”

“A mistake?” Megan deadpans with her eyes wide open.

I blow her off, not wanting to relive those days. “Yeah. I was crushed, but it’s just because he was confused. I mean, we have known each other since we were very little.”

“Yeah, but that’s no reason to be a dick.”

I let out a breath. “I know, but that’s in the past. He made up for it last night.”

“So, you guys are, like, a thing now?” Megan asks.

I nod. “Yep. Crazy, huh?”

“But what about Beau?” Megan tilts her head in question. “I thought you guys were kind of talking or whatever.”

I go to sit at the head of my bed. “We’ve kissed, but that’s about it. He hasn’t really been pushing to make it official or anything.”
