When the song talks about being sexy and knowing it, I roll my eyes and drop my head back. “Oh jeez.”

He holds out the phone to me so I can see the screen. “Don’t you think I could pull this off?”

I look at it and feel like my eyes could pop out of my head at the sight of a guy in a Speedo bathing suit, slinging his junk back and forth.

Dalton pulls the phone away from me and motions like he’s going to strip his shorts and show me himself.

“No. Stop. Please don’t.” I cover my eyes while trying to hide my giggles.

“I’m just kidding.”

I peek through my fingers to see him searching on his phone. “Let’s play something a little moreour ageof music.”

“What was that?”

“It’s called ‘Sexy and I Know It’ by LMFAO.”

“Dirt Road Anthem” by Jason Aldean begins slow with the guitar strings, and I instantly know the song and start singing quietly when the lyrics come on.

“Yeah, this is better for right now.” He holds out his hand to me. “Come on. Let’s head back.”

I moan at the thought of moving as I raise my hand to meet his and he lifts me to my feet.

“Don’t worry. We can walk back down.”

I don’t complain one bit as we slowly make our way down the hill, listening to some of my favorite songs all the way.

When we get to the river that separates our property, I remove the AirPod and hand it back to him. “That playlist was more my style,” I say about the country tunes we just listened to.

“Yeah, that’s my chill playlist. It’s good for a cooldown after a workout.”

“You have quite an eclectic taste in music.”

“I like a little bit of everything. My grandpa taught me how to play guitar, so I like this type of music because I can play it on my acoustic.”

My eyes widen in shock. “You know how to play the guitar?”

He grins almost proudly. “Sure do.”

“How come you didn’t tell me during our interview? I could have written about it.”

He leans in slightly with his eyebrows raised. “Because you wouldn’t ask me any questions.”

I roll my eyes and blow him off. “You mean, this whole time, I could have had you show me how to play guitar instead of going on these crazy runs?”

“Yep.” He pops his P like he means,Your loss.

“I still want to hear you play,” I say without thinking it through first and instantly regret it.

What the hell am I doing? I’ve hated this guy for years. Have I forgotten that? Why am I even standing here with him right now?

“I’ll bring it tomorrow. After our run, I’ll play you some songs.”

I cross my arms over my chest and lean back slightly. “Our run? What makes you think I’m going to continue to do this?”

He starts to make his way back up the hill to his house, but then he turns back to me and points to what I’m wearing. “When you bought those pants, I knew you were hooked. If you’d had those already, you would have worn them the first day. See you tomorrow.”

I watch as he places the AirPod in his ear and runs up the hill, leaving me standing here, frustrated because I know he’s right.
