“How come you didn’t tell me to stay?” I asked her curiously.

Sweet stood up, towering over me. I heard the sirens of the approaching fire truck as Sweet cocked her head and looked at me.

“Because you’re pulled to me like I’m pulled to you,” she said, stepping closer and putting a hand gently on my cheek. “That means you have to be around me.”

“Ridiculous,” I said.

“Is it?” Sweet asked. “Then why did you run out here after me, instead of staying inside safely and calling the police?”

I tightened my mouth. “I have to go home for a few days,” I said. “It’s my father’s birthday.”

“I should come with you,” Sweet said. “So your parents can meet their new son-in-law.”

“I haven’t agreed to that yet,” I replied. “And no, you can’t come because you have a show tomorrow night, and you know perfectly fucking well the patrons mostly come to seeyou.”

Iinformed my parents that until further notice I would be writing my archaeology dissertation while managing conflicts at the Heavenly Lights Drag Club. My parents were offensively pleased with this evidence of fiscal responsibility.

I did not mention Beau.

I knew my father had an ironclad rule at his firm of never fucking the customers.

But this customer was someone who never took no for an answer. So really I couldn’thelpit.

I tried to work on my dissertation for the few days I was there, but I couldn’t focus on it. Heavenly Lights occupied all of my thoughts.

I didn’t want to admit to myself how much I missed Beau. I missed watching him perform for the shows. I missed planning the upcoming shows. I missed being the only person at the club he would listen to. And I missed his hands on me, yanking my thighs apart and shoving his dick inside me. I looked down at my belly, rubbing across it with my hands.

I didn’t think Beau’s baby was inside me yet. But I didn’t put another patch on during my trip.

After getting repeated text messages that this was the last trip I was going to be able to take by myself, his text messages became more urgent the longer I was gone.

When are you getting in? Come to the club

I have to see you

Where are you? I can’t do any of this shit here until I see you

I texted him on the day I got back and told him I was doing a little shopping downtown and then heading to the club.

I could stop wanting Beauanytime. I was in control. He was so goddamn hot that it was perfectly understandable to want him. But I couldstopwanting him anytime.

I had an armful of shopping bags and was sipping my iced coffee as I walked down the street when I saw Beau’s truck screech to a halt and run up on the curb in front of me.

I didn’t give a shit about cars, so I didn’t recognize that it was his until I saw Beau hop out. But as soon as I saw his face, I tumbled the bags down on a nearby café table and took off running down the street.

I should have been able to outrun a man in tight shorts and flip-flops but he was bigger, faster, and obsessed.

I heard his feet pounding on the pavement behind me, but I didn’t even bother telling him to stop.

I knew he wouldn’t. I just concentrated my breath on running, tearing down the street, skittering around the corner, darting through groups of people.

I sensed him before I felt him, a rush of heat all along my spine before he caught up to me.

“Pointless, El,” Beau laughed, throwing me over his shoulder.
