“Relationships? No,” he said after a moment.

“Ihavehad sex with Beau,” he added, looking a bit flushed.

“Ah,” I said, surreptitiously making another BONED line between their names.

“Who do you think is behind all these accidents at the club?” I asked.

“Maybe someone who hates drag?” he asked.

I sighed. That was all very well, but it hardly narrowed down the list of suspects.

The next person to come in was Cody Weber, the tall blonde farmboy in his early 20s. His drag name was Corn Queen.

“Because I’m from Wisconsin,” he said.

“Are you still workshopping that?” I asked, because he seemed unsure.

“Yes,” he said. “Beau says it’s a shit name.”

I wrote another line beside Beau’s name that said BULLYING COWORKERS.

“And do you have any other jobs besides at the club?” I asked.

“I go to the local college part-time,” said Cody. “I room with my brother to save money, because I don’t get a lot of tips yet. I’m majoring in business.”

“Do you like that?” I asked.

“Not really,” said Cody. “But I might need to use my degree sometime. What I really want to do is dance, but my parents don’t know I do drag and I’m afraid if they find out they’ll stop paying for my college.”

He eagerly disclosed that he too was having sex with Beau, whenever Beau was in the mood for him.

I put DID THE CORN QUEEN in my notes.

The next person to come in was a slight man with a full head of wavy black hair and bright dark eyes. He looked like a 19thcentury poet and his name was Liam O’Connell. His drag name was frankly unprintable, and I was nervous to even write it on my pad of paper in case the insurance company got a hold of it.

“Is there a short form of that?” I asked.

“Just put Peachy,” he said. “I answer to that too.”

I was not surprised when he hesitantly disclosed that he too was having sex with Beau, when Beau deigned to make it available.

“Don’t let him take you for granted,” I said earnestly, forgetting that it was all very improper and unprofessional for a mere corporate consultant to get involved.

Liam sighed. “It’s not thateasy,” he said. “He doesn’t want to have sex with me very often but when he does I’m weak for that dick.”

I huffed impatiently. “There are other dicks around!” I said earnestly.

Liam just sighed again. “You don’t understand,” he said. “He’s like astallionin bed, with the stamina of a goddamngod. He can fuck you all night.”

“Think of thechafing,” I told Liam severely. “Don’t let him know you want it this badly.”

But Liam only sighed again. “I want to find a real relationship,” he said. “Beau doesn’t want a relationship. I want to find the kind of guy who’ll stickaround, you know. Someone who will go to the farmer’s market with me in the morning instead of leaving. Do you know anyone?”

I hesitated. “I don’t think that’s very appropriate, Liam,” I said, but he reached across the table, grabbing my hand with his. “Come on,” he said. “If you know anyone.”

He seemed very high-strung and artistic. Perhaps he had been the one to cut out little squares of paper for a death threat?

No, I didn’t think so. He was too high-strung and impatient to do something like that.
