I was scribbling furiously on a piece of paper after he left. What a fucking disaster area this was. The queens I interviewed worked at the hottest club in town, but they weren’t happy here. Between Rupert and Miss Min, the Heavenly Lights Drag Club was run very haphazardly, and there was no one to stop Beau from steamrolling everyone into giving him what he wanted. I was tempted to admit I was an archaeology graduate student and get the fuck out of there. Still. But. I had seen Temptress dance last night and she was damn amazing. It seemed like before I left I should at least make a tiny bit of effort to make the club safer. The first thing I was going to do was install cameras, lock down backstage, and hire more security guards.

I heard someone at the door, but I didn’t look up. I assumed it was Liam back for more artistic sighs.

“You didn’t askmewho I fucked,” said Beau, sitting down and leaning back in the chair opposite my desk, letting his thighs fall open as he sprawled there as if he planned to stay all afternoon.

“I don’t need to ask you,” I said abstractedly, flicking through some HR paperwork. “I know you’ve fucked everyone but Schwarb.”

“Why didn’t you interview me?” he asked.

I looked up at him. “Because you’re theproblem, Beau,” I said.

He raised his eyebrows. “I’m not the problem,” he said. “I’m the only reason this club is still open. I’m the hottest ticket in town.”

“You’re reckless and dangerous,” I countered. “If you want tokeepthe club open, you have to think about the other queens when you perform. Basic things like not setting them on fire.”

“You think you can come in and fix all this club’s problems in two days?” he asked, his face darkening. “You’re delusional.”

“I know I can fix one problem,” I said. “The fire dance is out or I’ll call the insurance company.”

I crossed my arms over my chest and glared across the table at him.

“You can’t handle this,”said Beau. “You look like you should be pregnant with a bunch of babies or doing psychic readings online.”

“You look like you should be selling scam penis-enlargement pills on late-night television,” I retorted. “But we’ll have to work with what we’ve got, won’t we?”

He laughed scornfully. “I don’t need penis-enlargement pills,” he said.

“Whatever, Beau,” I said. “I don’t give a shit. Just don’t be an asshole and we’ll get along fine.”

“I’m going to make goddamn sure you’re fired before the week is over,” he said, and he got up and left, slamming the door behind him.

I tried to push my worries out of my head and went to grab some lunch. But when I arrived back, clutching my leftover Thai food, I was still gritting my teeth at his interference. I hoped I wouldn’t see him for the rest of the day.

But I opened my door and Beau was in there, leaning back inmychair, getting a blowjob from a man in a suit. The other man had slicked-back blonde hair and was on his knees, energetically sucking Beau’s dick like he had never had anything so good in his life. The sound of his slurps was loud in the office. But Beau was looking atmeinstead, his arms crossed behind his head, a grin tugging at his lips as soon as he saw me.

“See anything you like?” he asked arrogantly, leaning back in my chair, the other man’s head still working energetically between his powerful thighs.

“Not really,” I said. “I see all that goddamn HR paperwork I told you to do still on my desk.”

There was a smirk on Beau’s tanned face, and he stretched back to give me an even better view of his tanned belly and toned legs.

“Don’t lie,” he said. “You wish it was you between my legs.”

“Yeah, I do,” I said. “Then I could punch you in the balls until you signed these goddamn papers.”

The man on his knees moaned, bobbing his head up and down, but Beau was still looking at me, narrowing his eyes.

“You can have a turn next if you apologize,” he said.

“Apologize for keeping you from being a jackass? No thanks,” I retorted. “You have 30 seconds. Or I’m going to get the fire extinguisher.”

I turned to leave, huffing in annoyance, but he said, “Stay here and watch.” There was a glint in his eyes that I found extremely irritating.

I did not bother to respond, just left and slammed the door on my way out. See how he liked it.
