Horror rounded Izzy’s eyes. She moved past him and dashed out of the kitchen. She returned with the others.

“I have another set of snow chains.” Finn frowned at Drake. “They’ll fit my Jeep and yours.”

“Mine is geared for this kind of weather,” Drake said in a hard voice.

Finn hesitated before nodding.

Miles swallowed, his gaze swinging between them. “What are you saying?”

“We’re going to find Logan.” Determination tightened Drake’s jaw. He glanced at Izzy, who was calling emergency services as she paced the kitchen. “It might take forever until they find him. Besides, they’ll be running a skeleton crew today. At least we know the route Logan took.”

Miles shuddered and sagged. He bit his lip, trying not to let panic overwhelm him. Roman pressed a comforting hand on his shoulder.

“We should bring Pepper,” Tristan said. “She’ll probably sense Logan if we get close enough to where he is.”

“Let’s get those snow chains on your Jeep,” Hunter told Drake grimly.

Drake, Tristan, Wyatt, Hunter, and Miles got in the vehicle minutes later. Izzy and Roman came out with blankets and a couple of hot flasks while Alex brought them an emergency kit.

“Be careful,” Izzy mumbled. “All of you.”

Miles registered her haggard look for the first time. Guilt twisted his belly.

Is this what it was like for Izzy when she heard about our accident? Did she feel the same suffocating terror and helplessness I’m feeling right now?!

Every moment Miles had spent with Logan flashed before his eyes as Drake headed out of Finn’s estate and slowly made his way through the blizzard sweeping across the valley surrounding Twilight Falls. Every kiss. Every touch. Every smile. Every gasp of pleasure.

Every loving look.

Miles blinked.I love him. I love Logan!

He didn’t realize he was crying until Hunter wrapped an arm around his shoulders and hugged him to his chest.

“It will okay,” Hunter said in Miles’s hair, his voice steady and strong. “We’ll find him.”

They’d just reached the bottom of the mountain when Pepper woofed. Drake gently tapped on the brakes. Pepper put her forepaws on the dashboard where she sat on Tristan’s lap. She started barking agitatedly.

“There!” Wyatt shouted.

Miles stared frantically to where he pointed. His eyes widened. His breath hitched.

Something big had plowed through the snowdrifts that had piled on the verge. The track disappeared between the trees and down a bank.

Drake parked the Jeep on the side of the road and put hazard triangles around the vehicle while Miles and the others made their way to the edge of the embankment.

A choked sound left Miles.

“Shit!” Tristan swore.

Wyatt grabbed his cell and dialed emergency services.

Logan’s pickup was lying on its side at the bottom of an incline, near a stream. The driver’s door was facing the sky and was badly dented, the paintwork scraped and damaged. A beat-up Cadillac sat in the water a few feet from the pickup, hood buckled and steam escaping from the heated engine as snow piled on top of it.

Fear sapped the strength from Miles’s legs. His knees buckled.

Hunter cursed and caught him around the waist.

It was clear the car had crashed into Logan’s pickup and carried it over the edge of the road.
