“I personally don’t mind, Aunt Molly,” Matt laughed. “I can carry Evie all day.”

“There are babies crawling!” Molly yelled, laughing.

Once Matt placed Evie on the carpeted floor and closed the office door, Matt turned and stared hopefully into Evie’s eyes. He was pleased with the return look she offered him.

Love.

Twenty-eight days hadn’t diminished her feelings for him.

He gathered her in his arms and held her tight. She held on just as tightly which again soothed his doubting heart.

“We should probably talk,” Evie whispered while still holding tightly around his waist.

“We should,” Matt agreed but not wanting to let go. He lifted his head and looked at Evie. Then he looked at her lips.

Evie smiled and said, “Two more days.”

Matt grumbled.

Evie laughed.

Evie reached up and kissed him on the cheek and then stepped back. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m asking you the same question.”

“I asked first.”

“This is my aunt and uncle’s home,” Matt challenged.

“How many times in the last month have you had dinner inside your aunt and uncle's home?” Evie inquired as she raised an eyebrow.

“Once… today actually… I’m hoping I’ll get the chance to eat when we’re done here.”

“Today will be my third time, so I win. You answer the question first,” Evie laughed.

“I see how it is!” Matt decided to let her win the battle. “I concede,” he smiled and offered her a chair.

Matt grabbed a chair and placed it directly in front of her and reached out for her hands. She took them and then he explained everything that had happened since they last saw each other.

Evie expressed her appreciation for Bobby, shocked at his good fortune of getting a great position at the fire station in Palo Cerdo, and cried when he told her of his experience when he knew Heavenly Father had forgiven him.

“How long will you be visiting Amanda?” Matt asked. “I’m assuming Amanda is doing something to help our parents while they are on their mission.”

“Actually,” Evie began. “Your parents called me, not Amanda.”

“What?” Matt questioned.

“Three weeks ago, your parents called and asked me if I wouldn’t mind taking the task of running Marie Manor while they were gone.”

Matt only swallowed… hard.

Evie giggled.

“Let me back up a little further. Ryker and Boden drove me home. My phone exploded with messages as well when I turned it on, but that explosion wasn’t to the same degree as yours.”

“Did you have any surprise callers?”

“Besides reporters and salespeople wanting my interview or endorsements, and my ex-fiancé Keith, begging to give him another chance and that he would do more to be a team player? Nope. I couldn’t stomach that idea, so I turned my phone off again. I was grateful for a place to hide at my parents’ home for the first week.”
