Matt looked into Evie’s eyes and shook his head very discreetly. He hoped she caught that slight movement. He too didn’t want to share certain things for the entire world to hear.

Evie grabbed his hand and held it. “So… what keeps your parents in that small town up north?”

For someone who didn’t seem to be observant of her surroundings, she read others’ expressions very well.

“My dad owns a horse stable and Emma runs an Airbnb.”

“Oh… I’m jealous. I have always wanted to have my own horse stable.”

“It’s hard work.”

“I’m aware.”

“I guess you would be.”

Matt stared at Evie’s plate and realized she had barely touched her plate.

“What’s wrong? Do you not like gnocchi?”

She looked down at her plate in surprise and then looked up. “I forgot there was food in front of me!” she laughed. She grabbed her fork and began digging in. “I like gnocchi!” she asserted after eating her first bite. “I like it a lot!”

They finished eating and shortly after a waiter brought two small bowls of Italian spumoni.

“This is refreshing,” Evie uttered in delight when she finished. “It’s minty. It’s like they want our mouths fresh for something else tonight.”

Matt smiled broadly and noticed Evie’s cheeks redden with embarrassment. That would be an activity he would thoroughly enjoy and since she was the one who brought it up… he would see what he could do to grant her wish.

He stood up, offered his hand to Evie, and said, “Let’s go pay our compliments to the chef!”

Evie seemed relieved and took his offered hand and followed him into the restaurant door that led to the kitchens.

The chef and a couple of his staff members stood up and placed their hands behind their backs.

“The meal was fabulous, and the ambiance was perfect!” Matt declared as he shook the chef’s hand.

“That pleases me, sir!”

“Your gnocchi were light and the sauce was magnificent. I really enjoyed it,” Evie added.

“And the dessert was the perfect touch to end the meal.”

“Fresh and minty,” added Evie.

Well… she said fresh and minty again. That was the sign he had been waiting for. He knew exactly where the cameraman was standing and he eyed a big heavy, metal door off to the other side. If his calculations were correct, it would be a cold encounter… but it would be worth it.

Matt shook the chef’s hand again and then embraced him with the other. He knew his microphone would be muffled between the two of them, so he leaned into the chef’s ear and whispered, “I’m going to use the cooler over there for a few private moments. Hope you don’t mind.”

When Matt stepped back, the chef smiled brightly and stepped to the side. Matt grabbed Evie’s hand and walked her toward the cooler door and opened it.

“What are you doing?” she asked.

“Taking advantage of some privacy.”

Matt pulled Evie inside the refrigerated walk-in cooler and closed the door.

“I’m counting on this metal box to block out any soundwaves, so our mics won’t be any good.”

“What just happened?” Evan screamed from behind the monitor.
