“Sound? Where’s the sound?” Sam hollered at the sound technician.

“Why is the cameraman just standing there?” Evan spouted as if the cameraman could hear him. “Someone, tell that dolt to get in that cooler!”

“I don’t think this is a good idea,” Evie whispered. It was cold inside the refrigerator, but she was far from being cold.

Matt held her close in his arms, looking down into her beautiful sea-green eyes. His mouth was inches away from hers. “It’s your call. I won’t kiss you unless you say it’s okay.”

He was just barely holding it together, but he wouldn’t force himself on her.

“This isn’t real.”

“Would you kiss the cameraman?” Matt asked.

“No!” she laughed.

“He’s been following you around the entire time. I think he’s into you.”

“But I’m not attracted to him,” she uttered.

Matt smiled. She was attracted to him. He lowered his head just a little bit more. He almost pulled back as he thought he had lowered his head too far, but when Evie tightened her grip around his waist and began engaging in the kiss, he relaxed his shoulders and returned her kiss.

Her lips were soft and inviting and he knew the memory of their first kiss would always be etched on his brain. She was not an inexperienced kisser as she matched him step by step, but her kisses were still pure and beautiful.

Just like her.

Suddenly, she pulled back and looked at him with a look mixed with shock and horror.

“This isn’t real,” she mumbled. “We shouldn’t have done that.” She suddenly shivered violently, and he knew he needed to get her out of the freezer.

He opened the cooler door and pulled her out. He took off his coat and wrapped it around her. He tried to put a look of pleasure on his face, but he knew he failed miserably. He didn’t even have the guts to see what expression of horror she had on hers.

“Thanks again, Chef,” Matt hollered over his shoulder.

Evie’s cold hands made his heart drop, so he stopped, picked her up and cradled her in his arms. She lay her head on his shoulder and his heart skipped a beat.

When they got to the limousine, the driver opened the door and Matt slid them both in. “Turn the heat up, please,” Matt ordered as he placed her on the seat beside him and rubbed her cold hands between his.

It was then he braved a look at her. He wanted to ask if she was all right, but he couldn’t. She looked utterly crushed. Her smoothed-back hair was not as smooth as it had been and she was doing everything in her power to keep from crying… and she refused to look at him.

“I’m going to send you home tonight, Evie.”

Evie looked up. The look of sadness actually helped his breaking heart, but he could see she did care for him… if just a little.

“This is too much for you. I’m sorry. I wanted the chance to get to know you better and hoped you wouldn’t mind staying because you just might have feelings for me.”

“Matt,” Evie interrupted. “I do have feelings for you. Please don’t think that I don’t. This is all just too much. I’m not always such a basket case,” she tried to laugh.

Matt reached up and touched her hair. “Are you going to tell me who did this?”

“I don’t know,” Evie moaned. “If the producers know, they haven’t told me.”

“I’m so sorry. The minute I find out, I will send that person home. Do you have any ideas?”

“I have a few, but I’m not going to tell you. The show must still go on and you have other ladies to woo.”

The only lady he wanted to woo was her… but she was right. He had a contract to fulfill and he would do it… to his dad’s dismay, he was sure. The one time he actually felt the need to complete something he started… and it had to be with women’s hearts.

The limousine dropped Evie off at the front of the mansion and then drove him to his RV. He didn’t want to see Michele… or the five invitations he had left to give out. He just wanted to change into some running gear and run.
