“I do, Emma,” Evie smiled cautiously.

“Honey,” Emma looked at John, “Let’s go to the barn and get things ready so they can take a ride.”

John didn’t look like he wanted to go, but he slowly got up and walked out the door, without saying anything to anyone.

Amanda followed suit.

“I told you my relationship with my father was tense, and you got to see it firsthand.”

“I’m guessing there is a reason behind all of that, but I think we should talk about it later.”

“Definitely, later!”

“Can’t say your family isn’t authentic! I don’t think there was any acting going on,” Evie laughed away some of her tension.

“Always genuine, despite possible hurt feelings.”

“So, are you going to show me around your childhood home?”

“I guess now is better than later,” Matt moaned.

“What does that mean?”

“You’ll see,” Matt replied.

Matt stood up, pulled Evie up from the couch, and moved to the side wall where family pictures were hanging on the wall.

He carefully studied Evie until he knew she saw what he wanted her to see.

“That’s…” she began but stopped speaking.

She began hitting his arm as her other arm rose up to point at the picture of the Salt Lake temple on the wall.

“What?” she uttered, still hitting him on the arm.

“Please remember that I was unable to talk about it… the same as you.”

“And still!” a crew member yelled from behind.

“Ridiculous!” Evie yelled back as she turned around and faced a camera. “I hope you enjoy editing because you’re about to get paid for your editing skills.”

Then she turned to Matt.

All he could do was brace himself.

For good or bad, he knew the time would eventually come and he had absolutely no idea of the outcome.

“You’re a member or the church?”

It was more a demand than a question, but he figured it would serve him better to be direct and as polite as possible.

“Yes,” he replied.

“And you knew I was a member?”

“Yes.”

“For how long?” she demanded.
