He groaned and I opened my legs to him, wrapping my knees around him.“Something tells me you’re starting to remember.”I was poised right where I needed to be to know he was on the same page as me.

His growl came from deep down.“Are you sure?”

I moaned.“Touch me, Colt.”

* * *

Clearly as sated as I felt, he collapsed on top of me.But, honestly, I couldn’t care less.I didn’t want to move, too afraid this moment would be over.Too afraid it was all just a dream.A very good dream. Then my stomach growled and interrupted my thoughts.“Sustenance,” I tried not to show that I was out of breath, both from the ecstasy I just came out of and holding his weight.

He rolled over and said, “Shit!I was crushing you.”

I leaned my forehead against his.“That was incredible.”I rolled over then and he leaned over and grabbed my arm before I made it out of the bed.“I’m starving,” I explained.

“Oh, I heard, but maybe I can convince you food can wait.”

“Okay, slow down there.I need food,” I said in all seriousness, thinking about those eggs and bacon I cooked up before.

He growled, bent over and kissed my neck.“But I can fill you with other things.”

I raised an eyebrow.“You’re bad, Colt.”

He laughed.“What’s the point in being good?”

I couldn’t help it, so I leaned back over and straddled him.I was just about to lick his neck and drive him crazy when my phone rang.I tried to ignore it, but on the third ring, he insisted, “Are you going to get that?”I was so used to ignoring the phone these days, after I gotthecall, it was becoming easier to do with my brother gone.

“I probably should,” I admitted.Whoever it was, though, was a pain in my ass that was for sure.

I didn’t even bother to look at the caller ID, just answered.“Hello?”The question came out with a giggle as Colt began tickling my side.

“Scarlet.”I knew that voice anywhere and it sent shivers down my spine.

Colt must’ve seen the change in my expression, because he immediately shot up and began rubbing circles on my back.“What is it?”he mouthed, but I couldn’t answer him.

Instead, I answered Nick.“What do you want?”

“There’s a solution to this. But you need to be a willing participant.”

“What is it?”I tried to look less nervous, so Colt wouldn’t catch on.And just in case he could hear, I pulled the sheet off the bed and took it with me as I walked into the bathroom and closed the door.

“Why the hell are you calling me?”I was getting pissed now.

I heard him sigh on the other line.“Baby, is that anyway to talk to your soon-to-be husband?”

“What?”He must’ve lost a screw since I left New York, because there was no way I was marrying that son of a bitch. He was no better than the slime ball he worked for.“You have about twenty seconds to explain yourself before I hang up, block your number, and call the police.”Why in the hell would I threaten him?

Colt was making me feel a little too safe.He made me feel like I could finally get out from underneath this pile of crap I placed myself under. But I needed to tread lightly.Nick was still calling the shots.

Nick responded, “Spousal immunity. If you marry me, the courts can never make you testify against me.”

My mind was spinning and all I could do was hold on tighter to the sheet.“Not Rafe.Besides, why would I agree to that? And the courts would never buy it if it’s a bogus marriage.”

“Bullshit. They’ll never know it’s a bogus marriage. And no one would believe it since we’ve been dating for so long. You loved me once, you can do it again. And we both know I still love you, so it’s a win-win.”

“You don’t know what love is,” I retorted.“And it’s only a win-win for you,” I softly replied thinking about Rafe. This would never fly with him because it didn’t protect him.Unless he just assumed Nick would keep the little wifey quiet. But it’d be a cold day in hell before—

He growled.“Okay, now you’re pissing me off.If you don’t do this, then you can kiss your boyfriend goodbye.”

I tried to play it cool, so I lied.“I’m not dating anyone. We just broke up, Nick. How stupid do you think—”
