“Liza, no.” Tarryn didn’t look pleased.

“It’s only for two episodes…maybe three. The writers are still ironing out his plotline. He barely has to say a word. We can send him to wardrobe and then he can stand around looking tall, sexy, and foreboding. He’s perfect!”

I smiled in bemusement, not sure what the social etiquette for this type of situation was. “I’m sure there’s a lot more to acting than standing around, even if I don’t have anything to say.”

“There is.” Tarryn said, smiling gratefully.

“I know this isn’t ideal,” Liza said, “but if it’s not him, it’s going to take days to find a replacement for Filip. He walked off set while you were in your trailer, and I don’t think he’s coming back. He was pretty insulted by all of the direction Evan was trying to give him. Come on. It’s worth a try, at least.”

I shrugged. It sounded like fun—or as near to fun as a person could get without either scaring someone or fucking them.

“Fine. In the interest of saving time, we can give it a try, but don’t blame me if he’s terrible.”

“I think he’ll be fantastic. Loïc? Will you help us out so we can salvage our next two weeks?”

Looking at Tarryn, I waited. Having the chance to work with her sounded fun, but I wouldn’t risk upsetting her.

She smiled tightly and nodded.

“Okay.” The word was barely out of my mouth before Liza shoved an NDA and release form at me to sign, then rushed me off to wardrobe, where they dressed me as though I was about to raze someone’s village and defile anyone I tripped over.

Very nice.

I would have to incorporate more barbarian wear into my usual wardrobe.

When Liza came to check on me, she gasped, and clapped emphatically. “I don’t know why Tarryn didn’t bring you in sooner. You’re absolutely perfect.”

I considered making one of Rodrigo’s silly “that’s what she said” jokes, but thought better of it. I didn’t think Tarryn would appreciate it if I made crude jokes in her place of work.

Funny how I was more than willing to defile Valor in his office or a public park, but wouldn’t even make an inappropriate joke if it might embarrass my wife-to-be.

“Come with me.”

She led me through to where Tarryn was waiting, now in a completely different outfit than the last time I’d seen her. Her makeup and hair had been subtly changed. She looked absolutely mesmerizing. Like a queen.

“Have you watched the show?” Liza asked.

“I don’t watch television.”

The woman snorted, as though I were joking. When I didn’t laugh, her thin brows rose to new heights. “Nothing? Not even any of the streaming services?”

“No.”

“YouTube?”

“I think my brother-in-law used that to fix their sink once.”

“My god. Have you been marooned on an island all your life?”

“More or less. As I said, I was homeschooled. My upbringing was…very strict.”

She grunted and shook her head, as though to clear it. The poor woman seemed affronted that I didn’t watch television. Well…I did sometimeswatch children’s programming with my nephew and niece, but I doubted she wanted to hear about that.

“In this scene, Red is going to be seated in a tavern. You come in and glance her way then go to the bar. As soon as he sees her, he wants her, but he’s not going to approach her right away.”

A buxom young woman in medieval garb stood behind the bar with a rag in her hand.

“Am I evil?” I asked Liza, wondering what to do with my face. I’d rehearsed my expressions in mirrors since I was small to avoid irritating Martine, so I might be able to fake my way through this for two episodes.
