Tarryn had straightened up, but her lips were so pale I doubted she’d stop vomitingfor long.

“No, she’s fine,” Valor looked at me as though trying to telepathically send me a thought. He wanted me to shut up. He gestured at the woman with his eyes and a twitch of his brows, like she was a potential threat.

“Oh my god,” the woman crowed. “Whose is it?”

I shook my head at her, trying to catch up to what was happening. “Whose is what?”

“Ma’am!” Valor barked giving the poor woman a death glare.

“Oooh.” She made a motion as though she’d buttoned her lips shut. Looking very smug, she dug through her purse and pulled out her iPhone.

“Don’t you dare,” Valor warned her.

“What is happening?” Now I was upset. Did everyone in this public restroom know what was going on except me?

The outer door opened again, and a blonde stepped inside.

“Sorry! Occupied!” the elderly woman steered the woman out again and locked the door behind her so the four of us wouldn’t be disturbed.

Tarryn flushed the toilet, then shuffled over to wash her hands and face in the sink while I got her some dry paper towels. Valor moved to rub her back.

“Don’t.” She heaved a little but managed not to retch.

Valor held up his hands like he was afraid she might go off again.

We stood there, watching helplessly as she pulled herself together.

“Loïc, we can have this conversation when we get back to my hotel,” Tarryn said firmly. “I can guarantee I don’t need to see a doctor right now.”

“Dang it!” Our spectator sighed.

She wanted to talk aboutwhatwhen we got back to the hotel? So, it was personal, not a stomach bug or food poisoning?

This reminded me of…Minnow.

Minnow pale as milk, rushing to the bathroom to vomit.

“Oh, Tarryn,” I breathed, my heart flipflopping in my throat. “Are you…pregnant?”

She nodded her head almost imperceptibly.

“Oh!” I wasn’t sure how I crossed the distance to her, but I doubted my feet touched the floor.

When I reached her, I fell to my knees and hugged her legs. I wanted to put my ear against her belly—to get closer to her and the baby somehow.

A baby.

A real baby.Ourbaby.

We’d put a child inside her, Valor and me.

Could a man die of happiness? My throat tightened with emotion, and I sobbed, trying to breathe past the knot. Tears sprang from my eyes. As gently as I could manage, I brushed a kiss against her dress-clad stomach. No wonder she was even more beautiful than the last time I’d seen her. Now, I’d get to watch her belly grow day by day. I would never leave her side.

She ran her fingers through my hair.

“Whose baby is it?” our spectator stage-whispered.

“Ours. All three of ours.” Valor’s words held a quiet conviction that surprised and moved me.
