The tension in the SUV told me everything I needed to know about how much my fiancé’s family loved him.

Although I was trying to keep it together, my throat was tight, and there was no holding back my tears. Minnow had gone into full mom mode and was doing her best to keep everyone calm while she tried not to cry, but Severin was fidgeting with furious impatience.

I tried to dry my cheeks with my T-shirt, but the tears kept coming.

Poor Loïc had already been through so much in life, and now this? He deserved to go out and dance and have a good time without something shitty happening to him, for fuck’s sake. First, those assholes with weapons had attacked us, and now this. Lord only knew what the person who’d drugged him had planned to do to him.

“Who the fuck does this to someone?” Severin kept saying. “I’m going to kill that motherfucker.”

I’d never been bloodthirsty, but hearing him say it made me feel better.

“We’re all angry, Sev, but think realistically,” Rodrigo said, trying to be the voice of reason. “We’re all worried, but you playing vigilante won’t solve anything. Think about the kids. It would be hard to raise them from jail.”

“Now isn’t the time, puppy,” he snapped.

“Take a deep breath, Mister Leduc,” his wife said.

“My breathing is fine, Ms. Solis-Leduc.”

“You’re freaking out, and Loïc needs us to be calm and supportive right now.”

“Maybe he needs me to go down there and break some fucking heads.”

“If you can’t behave, you’re staying in the SUV,” Rodrigo warned.

“I’d like to see you try to enforce that,” he grumbled. “I’ll walk through you to make sure he’s okay, then assfuck you with no lube in the hospital parking lot.”

“Don’t threaten me with a good time.”

Severin snorted in annoyance. “Don’t try to flirt me out of this mood.”

“Did you bring any emergency pizza, Min?” Rodrigo asked Minnow. “It works for Conk, but we’ve never tried it on Sev.”

“I’m sure we can order some while we sit in the waiting room.”

“Waiting room?” Severin roared, shaking the SUV.

“Do you think they’re going to let you in the back just because you’re obnoxiously large?”

“I’m also rich. Between the two, people tend to do what I want.”

“If anyone is allowed in,” Minnow pointed out, “Tarryn is the first priority.”

“He’smylittle brother. I wasn’t there for him growing up, so I’m sure as shit not going to fail him now.”

“I understand that you’re worried and angry, Mister Leduc. We all are, but Tarryn is engaged to him and pregnant with their family’s child. When it comes to Loïc, she and Valor take precedence over us now.”

He huffed. “I’m not enjoying this conversation.”

When we reached the hospital, Rodrigo dropped us off at the door, saying he’d meet up with us as soon as he found somewhere to park.

“Just leave the fucking thing here,” Severin growled. “If they tow it, we’ll get a new one.”

“Rodrigo will park so he’s not blocking the emergency doors, and he’ll be with us in no time,” Minnow murmured.

Severin helped Minnow and I out of the car very carefully, then stomped off ahead of us, somehow managing to keep an eye on us at the same time. Minnow trotted after him and whispered her intention to touch him before taking his hand, then she reached back to snag mine, too. She squeezed my fingers, and I appreciated the hell out of the fact that they were with me.

“I know you’re having a lot of big feelings,” Minnow murmured to her shaggy husband.
